Indiana General Assembly 'short' session opens Jan. 3

The Indiana General Assembly 120th session will reconvene for the 2018 "short" session at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the statehouse in Indianapolis.

The short session will not involve drafting a state budget. The deadline for bill filing for the Senate is Jan. 5, and for the House is Jan. 9. The 2018 session must end no later than March 14.

Nearly 200 bills have been filed so far, with hundreds more expected by the filing deadlines.

Legislation topics likely to be considered will include the opioid epidemic, redistricting reform, Sunday alcohol sales, educational and motor vehicle issues and many more.
