The Pulaski County Public Library has listed its special programs and activities for October, which include pumpking painting, an introduction to Microsft Publisher, disucssion on wills and estate planning, and "heavenly" dairy products.

Special Events:

Pumpkin Painting:BYOP (Bring Your Own Pumpkin) and get into the Halloween spirit! We’ll have two pumpkin painting sessions: October 18 and 25 (both Wednesdays) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All ages are welcome, and painting supplies will be provided.

Introduction to Microsoft Publisher: Learn how to use Publisher to lay out and design documents at this introductory-level computer class from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Friday, Oct. 20. The class is free, but sign-up is required. Call the library to reserve your spot.

Make & Take Dryer Vent Pumpkins: Make a pumpkin out of dryer vent tubing at 5 p.m.,  Monday, Oct. 23. Registration is required for this craft - call the library to sign up.

Wills & Estate Planning: Local attorney Tim Murray will speak about wills, advance directives, and other estate planning topics at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24.

Heavenly Dairy Products: There’s more to dairy than just milk. In this class, Mark Lyons, an experienced cheesemaker, will show participants how to turn milk into wonderful treats such as butter, cheese, buttermilk, crème fraîche, and Devonshire clotted cream. Join us at 5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2.


Regular Programs:

Lego League: Every Monday at 4 p.m., kids of all ages can come and exercise their imagination as they build with Legos. A weekly theme serves as a launching point for their Lego creations.

Genealogy Help: Mondays 4 to 6 p.m. If you’re interested in your family’s history but just aren’t sure where to start, this is the time and place to find out!

Together Time: This program is held on Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. and is for our youngest library patrons: music, stories, and fun for babies and toddlers.

Toddler Legos: We build with Duplo blocks - larger Lego bricks designed for young children - at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday mornings (directly following Together Time).

Family Movie Night is held every Tuesday at 4 p.m. The October movies are:

  • Oct. 3: Beetlejuice
  • Oct. 10: Spooky Buddies
  • Oct. 17: Halloweentown
  • Oct. 24: Halloweentown II
  • Oct. 31: Halloweentown High

Pokémon League: Join kids, youth, and parents from the area as they play the exciting Pokémon card game. The league meets each Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Magic: The Gathering League: Bring your decks to this new weekly program.  Join other players in playing the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering every Thursday at 4 p.m.

Board Game Night: Every Thursday at 4 p.m., we set up a chosen game that anyone can play. Our entire board game library is also available.

Story Time: On Saturdays at 10 a.m. we read a picture book and make a fun craft.

Teen Activity Board: Teens gather for fun activities and to brainstorm ideas for upcoming events and programs. TAB meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m.

Book Club is held on the second Friday of each month at 2:30 p.m.  The book up for discussion this month is Natchez Burning by Greg Iles.

Third Thursday programs are presented by the library at the West Side Center in Medaryville each month. A program for kids is held at 5:15 p.m., followed by a program for all ages at 6:30 p.m.
