Richard R. Bischoff

August 24, 1922 to August 27, 2017

WINAMAC - Richard R. Bischoff, 95, of Winamac, passed away at 5:42 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 27, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac.

He was born Aug. 24, 1922 in Beech Grove, to the late Francis X. and Edith I. Wewe Bischoff. He married Marilyn J. Oakley on Sept. 19, 1942. She died June 13, 1962. He married Roberta M. Huff on July 20, 1963 in Seymour. She died Aug. 3, 2013.

Mr. Bischoff graduated from Beech Grove High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He landed in Normandy on D-Day-plus-two and served in Europe until the end of the war. He served in the 607th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He moved to Winamac in 1963 where he managed the Farm Bureau Co-op. He was the former owner of Rich's Cafe and Bischoff's Restaurant in Winamac. He served as the Pulaski County Surveyor. He also served as a Republican precinct committeeman. He served as a bail bondsman until his retirement at age 93. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Winamac and member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, animals and spending time with his family.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 31, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. A scriptural wake service will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 1, at St. Peters Catholic Church, Winamac, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating. Burial will be at St. Peters Cemetery, Winamac. The VFW and American Legion will conduct a military graveside service.
