Volunteers help with park clean-up

WINAMAC - Early clouds and a possibility of rain failed to deter nearly 60 volunteers who showed up for a clean-up day at the Winamac Town Park Saturday (April 22).

The project was planned not only as a community event, but in recognition of Arbor Day and Earth Day. It was an opportunity for the local community to get out and appreciate the outdoors

Individuals and groups participated, including the Boy Scouts,  members of Northern Indiana Power from the Past, Winamac schools, and 4-H youth, as well as local business ProscapeS..

One helper found one of the “Pulaski Rocks,” so check out “Pulaski Rocks” on Facebook and join the craze! The purpose of the project is to spread joy and brighten the day of anyone who finds one - and anyone can participate.

Over 200 hours of work was performed to help beautify and maintain the park. Ten trees were planted by the dog park, dead trees and shrubs were removed and hauled away, twigs raked and picked up, and dirt was leveled.

David Bennett, chair of the park board's advisory council stated “the park clean-up was a tremendous success with many groups and individuals showing up to help. On behalf of the advisory council, we want to thank all those that showed up to make this happen.”

Town Park superintendent David DeLorenzo was pleasantly surprised and said the day gave his staff a jump on summer maintenance for the park.
