Friend of Extension award presented to Sue Nies

Sue Nies was awarded the Friend of Extension Award Saturday at the joint annual meetings of the Pulaski County Soil & Water Conservation District and Purdue Extension Pulaski County.

The event was held at Bethel Bible Church. Pulaski County SWCD hosted the event and served a pancake breakfast to those in attendance.

Nies, who recently retired from Purdue Extension, continues to volunteer for multiple Extension programs. She serves on the 4-H Foods Committee and is a member of Gingham Pals Extension Homemakers Club. In the past, she has served as president for Pulaski County Extension Homemakers, leader of Monroe 76’ers 4-H Club, and president of Pulaski Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Group.

“Sue is a true giver,” said Samantha Williams, County Extension Director/4-H Educator. “She is always willing to help in any extension program. She exemplifies what a 'Friend of Extension' truly is.”

The annual meeting celebrates the impact and successful programming accomplished throughout 2016 by both organizations. Both groups work to provide educational opportunities and resources to the community that focus on conservation, water quality, healthy living, youth development, money management, school readiness, and much more.

The mission of the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service is education of Indiana citizens through the application of land-grant university research and knowledge-base to develop youth and strengthen agriculture, families, and communities.
