Arrests made in murder of former Winamac man

KNOX - The Starke County Sheriff's office is reporting it has taken into custody Saturday afternoon two suspects sought in connection with a murder Friday evening in Knox of a former Winamac man.

The victim, who died of a gunshot wound, has been identified as Cord Colgrove, 35, of Knox.

Arrested in connection with the incident are Edward Shea Blackburn, 30, of Arkansas (formerly of Texas) and Augusta Hadden, 39, of Knox. WSBT News of South Bend reports the suspects were captured just after noon near a Mishawaka hotel.

On Friday (March 3) at about 6:35  p.m., the Starke County 911 Center received a call of a male that had been shot outside a North Judson residence in the 1400 W block of CR 400 S. Officers arrived and found a male victim who sustained a single gun shot to the face. The victim was later identified as Colgrove, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Starke County Sheriff’s detectives and Indiana State Police crime scene technicians were called to the scene to process evidence.

Sheriff Bill Dulin thanked those who provided tips and information to help locate the suspects.

Colgrove was a 1999 graduate of Winamac Community High School where he played soccer and baseball. An obituary appears on the PulaskiPost obituary page.

 

Update:

Blackburn entered a plea of not guilty Tuesday morning during an initial hearing in Starke Circuit Court. He remains jailed without bond.

He allegedly shot Colgrove in front of two witnesses and his co-defendent Hadden, according to court records. She is charged with assisting a criminal. Her bond is set at $200,000 surety. A court-appointed attorney will defend her.
