VFW receives Community Foundation grant

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1728 recently received a $7,500 grant from the Community Grants Fund through the Community Foundation of Pulaski County.

This grant will go to support a new roof on the VFW building in Winamac.

The VFW Post 1728 is an active partner in the Winamac/Pulaski County community. The building is used in a variety of ways to assist organizations in raising much-needed operating funds. The board of directors and trustees of the VFW announced the winning grant from the Community Foundation in celebration of the new year.

“After many years of patching and repairing the roof, we can now stabilize the building,” said a VFW spokesperson. Work will begin in the spring.

VFW officials went on to thank the Community Foundation for its support through the annual grant program. “With the support of the Community Foundation and several other local businesses, we will be able to complete this project and continue our service to the community.”

Founded in 1945, the Winamac chapter of the VFW exists to serve veterans, the military and the community. The VFW advocates on behalf of all veterans to ensure they are respected for their service, they receive their earned entitlements, and they are recognized for the sacrifices they and their loved ones have made on behalf of this great country.
