Nona Malchow-Orr

September 9, 1934 to January 5, 2017

FRANCESVILLE - Nona Lee Malchow-Orr, 82, of Francesville passed away at 3:18 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 5, at Creasy Springs Health Campus, Lafayette.

She was born Sept. 9, 1934 in rural White County to the late Robert G. and Mildred Musall. 

Survivors include four children, Robert Malchow, Rodney (Karen) Malchow, Nona Hollenbaugh, and Gina Leman; brother, Ralph Musall; sisters, Dixie Geisler and Doris Piercy; sister-in-law, Erma Musall; former husband Ellsworth Leroy Malchow; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and several other extended family members.

She is preceded in death by brothers, William Musall and Jim (Virginia) Musall; sister, Betty Stillwell and brothers-in-law Marvin Piercy and Doyle Geisler. 

Mrs. Malchow-Orr graduated from Royal Center High School in 1952 and completed cosmetology school. She owned and operated a beauty salon, as well as Nona's Drive-In in Francesville. Over the years, she worked as a Mary Kay consultant and a bookkeeper for several local businesses. She was a talented homemaker and artisan who was skilled in painting, making costumes, cake decorating, sewing, baking, and cooking. She enjoyed outdoor activities, including gardening, mowing, canoeing and fishing. She was active in the community as a member of the Red Hat Society and Francesville Fall Festival Committee. She was an avid supporter of local fine arts programs. She was a devoted member of the Francesville First Christian Church. She was a selfless, loving, accepting, and kind wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; who knew no strangers. She enjoyed traveling, laughing, singing, dancing and making the most out of life. Nona's lasting words to her family, Live each day, enjoy it ... make memories.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 9, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the funeral home with Pastor James Ketchen officiating. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.

Memorial donations may be made to the family c/o Rodney Malchow to assist the Creasy Springs Dementia unit with specific needs. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
