Rita E. Mrozinski

WINAMAC - Rita Elaine Mrozinski, 85, 619 N. Ewing Dr., Winamac, passed away at 11:55 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, at Triumph Our Lady of Peace Hospital, Mishawaka.

She was born March 22, 1925, in Detroit,  to Henry and Jaunitta Spencer Bartek. She married William Mrozinski on Feb. 13, 1965, in Winamac. He passed away on April 8,1997.

Mrs. Mrozinski lived in Winamac since 1955, coming from Logansport. She served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a member of American Legion Post #71, Winamac. She was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church, Winamac, and had served as secretary of the council at the church. She was a former employee of Thermo Products in North Judson where she was a marketing assistant and manager of the printing department. She was the former manager of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles office in Winamac. She also served on the board of directors of Kewanna Metal Specialities, Kewanna. 

Mrs. Mrozinski recently retired as a 31-year member and 26 years as chairwoman of the board of trustees of Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac. She was instrumental in establishing the Pulaski County Arts Association and served a term as president. She was also instumental in the creation of the Pulaski County Family YMCA.

Mrs. Mrozinski was the 1999 recipient of the Harold J. Halleck Community Service Award from the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce. She had been active in the local, state and national Democrat Party. She was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Frank Obannon. She was given the Award of Merit by the Indiana Hospital Health Association, and was named the 2000 Area One Senior of Year.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac; and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday (April 12), at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Winamac, with Pastor Carl Fitchett officiating. Burial will be in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services.
