Alliance Bank’s Junior Board of Directors goes behind the scenes of Indiana Beach

FRANCESVILLE - A group of area students, known as Alliance Bank’s Junior Board of Directors, were taken last month behind the scenes of everyone’s favorite local theme park, Indiana Beach.

Founded in 1926, the Spackman family was ready for anything the world could throw at them. Earl Spackman originally purchased the plot of land with the hope of creating a vacation cottage for his family.

However, with the Lake Shafer dam just finishing construction, there was a demand for an area to swim and enjoy this new man-made water feature.

Earl Spackman, and his 12 year-old son, Tom Spackman, built the first beach using just a horse and wagon and other small provisions. Over the last 90 years, the park has flourished and is visited by nearly 250,000 guests each season.

During the Junior Board’s visit, the students were escorted all throughout the park, while discussing the park’s history. Leading the tour was Indiana Beach’s chief marketing executive, Don Hurd.

Throughout the visit, the Junior Board members had the opportunity to ask questions regarding careers, production as well as the financial goals and economic impact of the park.

Alliance Bank’s Junior Board of Directors is comprised of junior and senior students from North White, West Central, Winamac and Twin Lakes high schools, serving two terms as board members; one term as a junior and one term as a senior.

The premise behind the Junior Board is to expose the students to the businesses and career opportunities available in Pulaski and White counties, encouraging them to bring their leadership and skill set back to the area after college.

Alliance Bank is a local Real Community Bank® with offices in Francesville, Monon, Monticello, Otterbein, Oxford, Rensselaer, and Winamac.

Alliance Bank’s Junior Board of Directors recently visited Indiana Beach to learn about the history and operation of the amusement park.

Here they stopped to snap a quick group photo in front of Indiana Beach’s newest attraction, known as Zero-G.
