Deputy coroner charged with theft/official misconduct

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office has arrested former Pulaski County chief deputy coroner Tracy L. Rossman, 41, of Winamac on preliminary charges of theft and official misconduct.

Rossman was taken into custody at 2 p.m., Thursday (Aug. 20) and booked into the Pulaski County Justice Center, according to the sheriff's department. She was later released on bond.

Pulaski County coroner Steve Vanderaa has terminated Rossman’s employment as a result of the investigation and arrest. 

The charges against Rossman stem from an alleged inicident that occurred the previous week while she was working on a case as deputy coroner. She is accused of removing items of personal property from the victim in the case, including his wallet, checks and gift cards.

Prosecutor Daniel Murphy's office has chaged Rossman with official misconduct as a Level 6 felony and theft as a class A misdemeanor, as the items she is accused of taking are valued at less than $750.

No other information has been released, and all inquiries have been referred to the Pulaski County Prosecutor's office
