IFDA recognizes local funeral director for 50 years of service

INDIANAPOLIS – During the 135th annual convention of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association (IFDA), Winamac resident Samuel M. Marks, Jr. was recognized for his longtime and continuous service to the funeral profession.  

Marks received a 50-year service pin at the awards and recognition banquet held in June in Indianapolis.

Marks and his wife, Carol, have lived in Winamac since 1987. Together, they are very active in supporting the local community.   Marks has had a devoted career in funeral service which began in 1960, when he went to work at Soller Baker Funeral Home in Lafayette, while attending Purdue University. After graduating from Purdue, he married and then completed his studies at the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis and became a licensed funeral director in 1965.  

After serving his country in Viet Nam from 1967 to 1968, he was sent to San Antonio. While there, he was employed by Porter Loring Mortuary. In 1980, Sam and Carol relocated to southern Indiana, where Sam worked at Chastain Funeral home in Mitchel.

In 1987, Marks accepted a position at Braun Corporation in Winamac to market their funeral cars. In October of that year, he also began his employment at Frain Mortuary where he remains a valuable member of the staff today. His love and dedication to the funeral profession is well known and commendable.
