4-H Livestock Auction brings $124,456

Buyers paid a total of $124,456.50  at the annual 4-H Livestock Auction at the 2015 Pulaski County 4-H & Community Fair Thursday evening (July 9) at the Winamac fairgrounds.

The amount was down from last year’s total of $141,754.65. (The 2006 record auction totaled $157,816.46.)

Animals sold, which were fewer than last year, included cattle, sheep and hogs, plus starter calves, rabbits and goats. Other items auctioned included dairy products, kisses by 4-H Royalty and Miss Pulaski County, and a quilt for the Extension Homemakers’ scholarship fund.

The sales by animal species were: beef $30,957.80, sheep $2435.25, swine $48,844.30, dairy $21,416.15, poultry $5,060, rabbits $555 and goats $10,588.

Again, this year's auction was aided by some buyer support groups, consisting of local individuals and businesses, who pooled their resources to purchase auction animals to support the 4-H'ers.

Miss Pulaski County 2015 Macy Bischoff’s kiss was purchased by Ron and Rich Bischoff  for $1,700. The 2015 4-H Royalty kisses, given by Madison Ruff and Caleb Bucinski sold for $900 and $1,000, respectively. Madison’s kiss was purchased by Jim Ruff, while Caleb’s smooch was purchased by his grandmother, Deb Bucinski.

The quilt, made by the Patchwork Pals EH Club, was sold for $700 to Tom Murray Jr. The proceeds will benefit the Pulaski County Extension Homemakers’ scholarship fund.

A cheese basket, prepared by Schyler Knebel who showed the reserve grand champion dairy cow, sold for $250 to Webb Printing.

The grand champion barrow was shown by Beau Brandt, and brought $2.75 per pound for total of $765.25  purchased by Lohmers Hardware and Farm Supply, Monterey Last year’s grand champion barrow sold for $11.50 per pound to a buyers group.

The reserve grand champion barrow, belonging to Katie Culp, sold for $4 per pound for a total of $1,008. The buyer was Talbert Manufacturing of Rensselaer.

Regan Culp of Francesville showed this year’s grand champion beef steer. The steer did not sell at the auction as it is being held for the state fair.

Winamac 4-H’er Mercy Wuethrich sold this year’s grand champion dairy steer to Dennis Weiss of Kankakee Valley REMC. 

This year’s grand champion lamb, exhibited by Laini Joseph of Winamac, also did not sell at auction as it is going to the state fair. 

Natalie Daily Federer bought the grand champion meat wether goat from Dalton Daily of Kewanna.
