4-H Junior Achievers named

Each year the local 4-H club leaders are asked to choose a fourth-year member of their club who they feel has demonstrated the qualities of up-and-coming leaders. These qualities include character, willingness to help, achievement skills, leadership, and overall positive attitude. 

All of these Junior Achievers will be recognized at the 4-H Achievement Program at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 4 at the Entertainment Stage in the Fairgrounds.

 

2015 Pulaski County 4-H Junior Achievers

 

Chloe Baker, daughter of Renee and Joe Baker, is a member of the Tippecanoe Industrious 4-H Club. In the fall, she will enter 7th grade at Winamac Community Middle School. She has completed projects in woodworking, farm toy scene, arts and crafts, Christmas ornaments, collections, flowers, Legos, and veterinary science. Her favorite project is the farm toy scene because the replication of these farms are sometimes the only farms some people will get to experience. She has received Reserve Grand Champion for a finished steer. The career that she hopes to pursue in the future is a veterinarian. 

Parker Burns, daughter of Joetta and Dusten Burns, is a member of the Monroe Happy Hoosiers 4-H Club. She will be an 8th-grader at Winamac Community Middle School. She has completed six years in foods and do-your-own-thing, and two years in both cupcake decorating and farm toy scene. Her favorite project is do-your-own thing because it allows her to express herself. She has plans to pursue mechanical engineering in the future.

Shalihn Compton, daughter of Steven and Sara Popejoy, is a member of the Van Buren 4-Leafers 4-H Club. She will enter 8th grade in the fall at Winamac Community Middle School. She has shown pigs for four years and goats for two years, and has completed projects in photography, crops, and animal science for 1 year. Her favorite project is pigs. She has received numerous Champion and Reserve Grand Champion awards for her projects. She plans to one day become a vet. 

Jaden Cordsdaughter of Brian and Sharon Cords, is a member of the Beaver Township 4-H Club. She has completed projects in baking-with-a-box, do-your-own-thing, electric, goats, poultry, dogs, farm toy scene, Legos, basic crafts, foods, and flowers. She has received several awards for her projects. Her favorite project is goats because she loves having pygmies as pets, taking care of them all year, watching the doe’s have babies and watching those babies grow up  to be champions, hopefully. She loves 4-H camp and hopes someday to be a camp counselor.

Valerie Field, daughter of Darrin and Dana Field, is a member of the Shooting Sports 4-H Club and the Monroe 76’ers 4-H Club. She will be in 7th grade at Winamac Community Middle School. She has completed four years of the following projects: wildlife, tractor, shooting sports, photography, farm toy scene, flowers, garden, do-your-own-thing, and Christmas ornament. She has completed three years in these projects: foods, arts & crafts, and cake & cupcake decorating. Her favorite project isdo-your-own-thing because it allows her to be creative and express herself. She has received numerous state fair entries of her projects. In the future she would like to pursue her artistic abilities. 

Jayden Moyer, son of Maria Fox, is a member of Indian Creek Indians 4-H Club. He has completed projects in swine for three years, Legos and basic crafts for one year. 

Jesse Neihouser, son of Brad and Barb Neihouser, is a member of the Horse and Pony 4-H Club and Salem Twp. 4-H Clubs. He will be a 7th-grader at West Central Middle School. He has completed the projects Horse & Pony and Legos for five years, aerospace projects for four years, sewing for three years, and one year for both electric and vet science. His favorite project is Legos because he likes to build structures such as a battleship, cruiser, iron man, twin towers, and a plane. He enjoyed going to 4-H camp as a 5th-grader. In the future he would like to see himself playing basketball or football or becoming a farmer or pilot. 

Catie Perry, daughter of Jason and Lucretia Perry, is a member of the Monroe 76’ers 4-H Club. She will enter the 7th grade at Winamac Community Middle School. She has taken fine arts for four years, scrapbooking for three, Legos for two, and cow, horse & pony, and photography for one year each. Her favorite project is cows because she can raise them from a calf and watch their personalities emerge. For three years, Catie has won Grand Champion and a state fair entry in fine arts. She would like to pursue a career as a veterinarian in the future.

Taylor Perry, daughter of Kellie Leonard and Rusty Perry, is a member of the Franklin Farmers 4-H Club. She will be a 7th-grader at Winamac Community Middle School in the fall. She has completed projects in swine, crafts, cake decorating, do-your-own-thing, and gift wrapping for four years, beef, potato, and foods for three years, hay/corn/bean, flowers, farm toy scene, and sewing for two years, strawberries, personality, and Legos for one year. Her favorite project is cake/cupcake decorating because she likes to design and make the decorations come to life. She has received numerous Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion awards for various projects. In the future she would like to attend the University of Notre Dame.

Eli Shannon, son of Cary and Jill Shannon, is a member of the Salem Superstars 4-H Club. He will be in 7th grade at West Central. He has completed projects for two years in both Legos and shooting sports, three years in foods and computers, four years in boer goats, beef cattle, swine, and electric. His favorite project is goats because it doesn’t matter how good an animal you have, it’s the effort you put into it. He has received Champion and Reserve Grand Champion numerous times. Last year he was Champion showman in calf, pig, and goat. In the future he would like to attend Purdue University, major in veterinary science and become a veterinarian. 

Danyel Stalbaum, daughter of Jeffery and Rebecca Stalbaum, is a member of the Lucky Clovers 4-H Club. She has completed projects in scrapbooking for three years, Christmas ornaments, Legos, and strawberries for two years, and computer arts, crafts, do-your-own-thing, recycling, sewing, and photography for one year.

Miranda Thompson, daughter of Scott and Joanna Thompson, is a member of the Paw Prints Dog 4-H Club. She will attend West Central Middle School as a 7th-grader. She has completed four years in electric and cats, two years in woodworking and basic crafts, and one year of dogs. Her favorite 4-H project is cats because they are her favorite pets. She has earned numerous Champion and Reserve Grand Champion awards and several state fair entries. She plans to pursue a career as a veterinary technician. 

Harrison Hustlers 4-H Club did not have any fourth-year members for 2015.
