2015 Lily Scholarship awarded to Hannah DeGroot

One Pulaski County student has been named the recipient of a full-tuition, four-year scholarship as the Pulaski County Community Foundation 2015 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.

Hannah DeGroot of Winamac Community High School will receive full tuition to the Indiana college of her choice and a $900 yearly stipend for required books and equipment.

Hannah, daughter of Perry and Katie DeGroot, will graduate in May. Over her high school career, Hannah has been involved in school activities including Student Council, Sunshine Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, and the STEM Club. She is the senior class president, and has served as student council treasurer. She has also been active in golf, basketball, and softball. Outside of school, Hannah is involved in her church, and has volunteered with community efforts. She has received several honors and awards, including distinguished honor roll, Midwest Conference Geometry Contest winner, and was selected as a HOBY Indiana Ambassador. 

Hannah has been accepted to Butler University. Her plans are to receive her bachelor degree in biological sciences and continue on to become a doctor. 

The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship is open to all Pulaski County high school seniors who will graduate with a diploma from an accredited Indiana high school and who have been accepted to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an Indiana school. Several scholarship applications from Pulaski County students were received and considered by the PCCF Scholarship Selection Committee. Candidates are nominated following an online application and an oral interview/presentation process. Nominees are then submitted to Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI) for selection in accordance with the criteria and procedures consistent with applicable law and the overall goals of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship program. 

ICI is a nonprofit corporation that represents 31 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit, private colleges and universities in the state.The scholarships are the result of a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education. Indiana ranks among the lowest states in the percentage of residents over the age of 25 with this year.
