Walorski makes Ag Tour stop in Pulaski County

Congresswoman stops in Winamac as part of district-wide agriculture tour

WINAMAC - In recognition of Indiana’s Agriculture Appreciation Month, Rep. Jackie Walorski (IN-02), member of the House Agriculture Committee, stopped in Pulaski County Tuesday as part of her district-wide agriculture tour.

During a visit to Black Gold Farms, Walorski toured the facility and met with agriculture experts.

“Hoosier farmers, small businesses, and agriculture industries are the drivers of job creation throughout northern Indiana,” said Walorski. “This week’s Ag Tour is an opportunity to highlight some of these important facilities and learn more about their day-to-day operations and the impact they have on our communities.”

Black Gold is the largest potato grower in Indiana. The Winamac farm supplies the late summer and fall demand for chip potatoes. It is also essential to the table-stock program as red and yellow potatoes are grown in this area to fill in the time-frame between Missouri and the Red River Valley.

"We're very proud to grow potatoes in Indiana. We have been growing potatoes in this state since 1994, and have been one of the top producing locations for Black Gold Farms every year. In Indiana, we are fortunate enough to have the right land, loyal partners and a talented workforce right here. The future of agriculture in Indiana and in potatoes is exciting and we hope to share our excitement with anyone who wants to know where their food comes from," said Farm Manager Nathan Libey.

For two days, Walorski will visit 11 different agricultural facilities and operations in the Second Congressional District. Visits will range from farms, lumber yards and the Marshall County Farm Bureau luncheon.

“From potato growers to hen and lumber production, each of the businesses I’m visiting this week is a another example of the important role the agriculture industry plays right here in Pulaski County. As a new member of the House Committee on Agriculture, this is a great opportunity for me to meet and visit with farmers and employees to talk about how we can continue to make agriculture a pillar of Indiana’s economy.”
