Francesville man dies in two-truck crash

FRANCESVILLE - A Francesville man is dead following a two-truck accident Wednesday afternoon, southwest of Francesville.

Bruce Wheeler, 76, Francesville, died from injuries sustained in the crash after being airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital. Also injured was Keegan McMindes, 25, of Battleground.

Pulaski County Sheriff Michael Gayer reports the Sheriff’s Office 911Dispatch Center received a call at 3:10 p.m., Wednesday (Oct. 22) of a serious two vehicle crash at the intersection of CRs 1600 West and 600 South, about two miles southwest of Francesville.

The police report says a 2014 Chevrolet C-Series truck, owned by Reech Deliveries Inc. of Lafayette and driven by McMindes, was westbound on CR 600 S and failed to stop at the intersection with CR 1600 W, striking a 2005 GM 3500 truck which was southbound on CR1600 West, driven by Wheeler.

Wheeler was trapped in his vehicle and was extricated by the Francesville Volunteer Fire Department. Both drivers were airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital by Good Samaritan where Wheeler later died from his injuries.
