Byron W. Harris

January 20, 1929 to July 5, 2010

 

FRANCESVILLE - Byron W. Harris, 81, of Noblesville, (Formerly of Lafayette and Bloomington) died peacefully surrounded by his family on July 5.

He was born Jan. 20, 1929 in Medaryville to Ralph Wallace and Zelma Campbell Harris. He married Carol Ann Lowry on March 18, 1956 in Francesville. She died in 2003.

Mr. Harris and his wife lived in Bloominton from 1964 to 1979 and raised their daughters there. The couple moved to Lafayette in December 1979 where they stayed until the death of Carol Ann. He then moved to Noblesville to be close to his two daughters.

Mr. Harris was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. He was a 1947 graduate of Medaryville High School.He was a railroader for 45 years. He started with the Monon Railroad in 1947 and worked his way up to the vice president of operations. He retired from CSX Transportation in 1992. He was a member of the Medaryville Masonic Lodge, South Bend Scottish Rite, and the Lafayette American Legion.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of services at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville,Thursday (July 8). The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., with Pastor Susan Jennys officiating. Masonic services will conducted during the funeral service. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery, Medaryville. The American Legion will conduct military graveside services.
