Alice M. Mooi

April 29, 1930 to October 17, 2017

WINAMAC - Alice M. Mooi, 87, of Rochester (formerly of Winamac) passed away at 1:42 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Wynnfield Crossing Senior Living Community, Rochester.

She was born April 29, 1930 to the late Herbert and Lillian Brook Asmus. On Oct. 19, 1957, she married Henry "Hank" Mooi in LaPorte. He passed away Sept. 9, 2017. 

Survivors include: 
Charles (Kay) Asmus, Brother 
Nancy Asmus, Sister-in-law 
3 Nieces and 3 Nephews 
Several Great Nieces and Great Nephews

Mrs. Mooi graduated from LaPorte High School, received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Ball State University, and spent her life as an educator. She taught in both the LaPorte County Schools as well as the Eastern Pulaski Elementary School. Altogether, she taught for 36 years. She was a member of the Pulaski County Retired Teachers Association and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winamac where she was active with the children's choir and had served as an organist. She enjoyed traveling as well as music, especially playing the piano. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 22, at the First United Methodist Church, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m., Sunday, at the church with Pastor Dave Marty officiating. Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery,  Winamac.

Memorial donations may be given to the First United Methodist Church, Winamac.

John W. O'Donnell Jr.

May 31, 1943 to October 16, 2017

WINAMAC - John William O'Donnell Jr., 74, of Fayetteville, Ark. (formerly of Winamac) died at 1:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 16, at his home in Fayetteville.

He was born May 31, 1943, in Winamac, to the late John Sr. and Dorothy Hein O'Donnell. He was a 1961 graduate of Winamac High School. In 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Heater. She died Nov. 12, 2011.

Mr. O'Donnell served in the U.S. Army, was in the band "The Group," was a hospital administrator, restaurateur, and was in sales. He and his wife moved to Fayetteville in 1983 with Winamac Steel. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 27, at St. Peter's Cemetery, Winamac, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services. Burial will follow services at the cemetery.

Ronald J. DePoy

November 2, 1940 to October 13, 2017

KOKOMO - Ronald Jay DePoy, 76, passed away Friday, October 13, in Kokomo while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Nov. 2, 1940, in Winamac, to the late Harry Jay and Bernice Kay Paulsen DePoy. He married Linda Dieselberg on Dec. 16, 1994. She survives.

Also surviving are sons, Andrew Jay (Teresa) DePoy, David (Danea) Dieselberg, and Douglas (Pam) Dieselberg; daughters, Kenlyn (Jeff) Watson, Teri Froelicher, and Kym Dieselberg; and brothers, DeWayne (Betty) DePoy, and Dale (Melanie) DePoy. He also leaves 17 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

After high school, Mr. DePoy attended Purdue University. He worked at the Chrysler plant in Kokomo for 36 years before retiring as a supervisor in 2000. He was also part of the Kokomo Underwater Recovery Unit. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and was a Scottish Rite Mason. He also belonged to the Methodist Church in Winamac. In his spare time, he enjoyed reconditioning and restoring Model T Fords and collecting model trains. He was an avid Indy Car and NASCAR fan and attended many racing events. From 1964 to 1968, he was a Golden Gloves Boxing champion in Muncie.

A private family service was held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, Kokomo, followed by entombment at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.

Thomas P. Kabrich

October 16, 1945 to October 15, 2017

FRANKLIN - Thomas Paul Kabrich, 71, of Edinburgh, formerly of Greenville and Francesville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, at Franciscan Health, Indianapolis.

He was born Oct. 16, 1945 in Shelbyville, to the late Carl and Mary (Ping) Kabrich. He married Sharry Carr on Jan. 21, 1967 at Jollity United Methodist Church in Shelby County. She survives.

Also surviving are sons Todd Kabrich (Jill) of Lafayette, Scott Kabrich (Kim) of Wolcottville, Troy Kabrich (Jody) of Clayton, N. C.: daughter Teri Kabrich of Silver Lake;  grandchildren Katelyn Kabrich, Ryan Kabrich, Meagan Kabrich, Jackson Kabrich, Lauryn Kabrich, and Alison Kabrich; nieces Sue Urban (Mike) of Brazil, Ind., Sandy Kyle (Mike) of Edinburgh, Kim Ceccoli of Weschester, Ohio; nephew Tim Kabrich of Edinburgh; father-in-law Norman Carr of Franklin; and sister-in-law Barbara Johnson of Fishers.

He was preceded in death by a brother David Kabrich, and sister Linda Wilhite.

Mr. Kabrich was a 1963 graduate of Southwestern High School in Shelby County, and 1967 graduate with honors from Purdue University in agronomy and agriculture economics, and was a member of the Farm House Fraternity. He served as an agriculture lender from 1968 until his retirement in 2013 from Shelby County Bank/First Merchants, and he was a long life farmer. He previously had been a lender for the Federal Land Bank/ Farm Credit Services, Agri-Business Services, Bell Investments, Bank of Reynolds, American State Bank/Indiana Federal Bank/ Pinnacle Bank, and National City Bank/PNC. Prior to his career in banking he had worked for the Hamilton County Extension Services. He attended Jollity United Methodist Church in Shelby County and previously First Christian Church in Francesville, and Edwardsville United Methodist Church in Edwardsville. He grew up attending St. George Lutheran Church in Shelby County. He was a member of Shelbyville Lions Club, served on the Pulaski County Jail Board and previously on the Pulaski Memorial Hospital Board. He enjoyed coaching football and baseball.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday Oct. 18, at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street), Franklin. The Reverends James Ketchen and James Hoppus will conduct a service at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 19, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

Glen A. Ward

April 24, 1940 to October 8, 2017

ROYAL CENTER - Glen A. Ward, 77, of Thornhope passed away peacefully at 1:58 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 24, 1940 in Dorothy, W. Va., he was the son of the late Henry and Mamie (White) Ward. He was a U.S. Army veteran. On Oct. 24, 1999 he married Marlene Frye. She survives.

Also surviving are brothers, Dean Ward of Crown Point and Marvin Ward (Linda) of Tennessee; sisters, Babe Kopaczewski of Crown Point and Carol Wolf (Tom) of California; and the son he never had, Randy St. Denis of Thornhope.  He is also survived by his beloved pets, Gracie the cat, Haley the chicken and Jade the dog.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Enal Cantly, Opal Fraze and Bernease Stonebraker.

Mr. Ward retired in 2004 from Winamac Coil Spring, Kewanna. He was a member of the Logansport Church of the Nazarene, American Legion and the V.F.W.  He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and mushroom hunting.

A celebration of Mr. Ward's life and military rites will be conducted at 7p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel with visitation from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.

 

 

Judith A. Cosgray

October 25, 1934 to September 6, 2017

ROYAL CENTER - Judith A. “Judy” Cosgray, 82, of Buffalo passed away peacefully at 4:55 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on Oct. 25, 1934 in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of the late John and Rose (Lanz) Tieman. She was a Pulaski High School graduate Class of 1952. On Jan. 14, 1956, she married Leroy C. Cosgray.  He preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 2013.

Survivors include her children, Steven L. Cosgray and wife Joy of Buffalo, Mitchell L. Cosgray and wife DeeAnn of Monticello and Sheryl A. Jones and husband Troy of San Tan, Ariz.; sister, Betty Ploss and husband Oscar of Headlee; grandchildren, Megan Haupert (Chad), Seth Cosgray, Kelsey Stetler (Corey), Allyson Cheever (John), Quentin Jones, Kaitlyn Bunch (Levi), Brant Jones (fiancé, Courtney Cazarez) and Hannah Cosgray and great grandchildren, Kinley and Olivia Bunch, Hadley and Brooklyn Stetler and Grayson Haupert.

She was preceded in death by sister, Barbara Crist.

Mrs. Cosgray owned and operated Judy’s Beauty Shop in Buffalo for over 58 years. She was a member of Buffalo Christian Church where she also taught Sunday School through the years. She was also a past member of the Tri Kappa Zeta RHO Chapter in Monon and the White County Historical Society. She was the former chairman of the Buffalo Centennial Celebration and a founding member of the North White Athletic Boosters. She enjoyed gardening, refinishing furniture, camping and, most of all, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10, at Buffalo Christian Church. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Monday. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 11, at the church with Evangelist Tom Haynie officiating. Burial will be at Hughes Cemetery, Monticello.

Memorial donations may be made to Buffalo Christian Church and/or the Liberty Township Park in Buffalo.

Pauline E. Fites

October 6, 1930 to October 10, 2017

WINAMAC - Pauline Elizabeth Fites, 87 passed away at 7 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, at her home in Winamac.

She was born Oct. 6, 1930 in Pulaski, to the late Peter and Matilda Moise Becker. She married Jack Fites on Jan. 3, 1953 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Winamac. He survives.

Also surviving are: 
Diane (Bill) Moyer, Daughter 
Jeff (Robin) Fites, Son 
5 Grandchildren: Andrea (Troy) Tennyson, Scott (Megan) Fites, Erica (Chris) Saggau 
Kateri (Ben) Gilliand, and Mary Beth (Nathan) Deinlein.
5 Great-Grandchildren: Emma Tennyson, Aubrey Tennyson, Addilyn Tennyson, Peter Fites and Paul Fites.

She was preceded in death by: 
Sisters: Helen Johnson, Alberta Wank, Mary Lou Dornsife and Joan Beehler.
Brothers: Gene Becker, Clem Becker, Carl Becker, Tom Becker, Richard Becker, Jack Becker and Infant Ralphie Becker.

Mrs. Fites was active in several community organizations including, St. Peter Parish, Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella, Ladies of Charity, Extension Home Economics Club, Krazy Quilt Club and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was also an adult leader of the Lucky Four Leaf 4-H Club for 43 years. She worked for Singer Controls Division (later Eaton Co) for more than two decades. She help organize the union at the factory and was the financial secretary for UAW Local 1609 for 17 years. She was a beloved and devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. She especially enjoyed making quilts. She also raised chickens and geese. She loved all animals except snakes.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. A scriptural wake service will be at 4 p.m., at the funeral home. The wake service will be followed by services by the Christian Mothers and the Ladies of Charity. Those services will be followed by a rosary service. 

A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, at St. Peter Catholic Church, Winamac, with the Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery, Winamac.
