André A. Neihouser
February 11, 1937 to October 24, 2021
FRANCESVILLE - André Adrian Neihouser, 84, of Francesville, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Oct. 24, bathed in singing and prayers and surrounded by family at The Springs of Lafayette senior care facility.
He was born Feb. 11, 1937 in Francesville to the late Pierre and Catherine Wuethrich Neihouser. In 1955 he graduated from Francesville High School where he played both baseball and basketball, enjoying a successful senior season. He attended Purdue University Short Course studying agriculture. He married Lois Hodel on April 12, 1959. She survives.

He is also survived by sons Brad (Barbara), Francesville, and Jeff (Sue), Morton, IL and daughters Michelle (Tom), Glenview, IL and Andrea (Darin) of Hamden, CT; plus nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and siblings Perry (Sally) Neihouser, Yvonne Gutwein, Renee Sinn, Marie (Akito) Inoue, Marcelle (Ron) Gress, and Sharon Neihouser.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra, and brothers-in-law Carl Gutwein and Walter Sinn.
Mr. Neihouser farmed near Francesville until his retirement. In addition to the Amway business he operated with his wife, he also drove a school bus and charter buses. He loved taking his family on vacation, whether it be traveling by car around the Midwest or traveling by air to visit his sister in Japan or relatives in France. He was an avid sportsman, taking numerous fishing and hunting trips throughout the Midwest and Alaska and Canada, always in the company of his close friends. He also showed his love and respect for U.S. veterans by playing Taps at military funerals for many years. He gave his life to the Lord Jesus in high school and lived out his trust in the Lord through his devotion to his family, church, and friends. His generosity and service to others was demonstrated by organizing a group to sing to shut-ins to provide encouragement to them. He was a big man with an even bigger heart for those in need. He was devoted to his family.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 29, at Frain Mortuary Querrry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Apostolic Christian Church in Francesville. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.

FRANCESVILLE - Pamela Kay Vogt, 75, of Francesville, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 22, at Franciscan Health Rensselaer Hospital.
She was born in Francesville on Oct. 10, 1946 to the late Emil L. and Mary M. Kupke Gutwein. In 1964, she graduated from North White High School in Monon. She attended Purdue University for two years and graduated from St. Joseph College with a degree in elementary education. On July 24, 1966, she married Donald Dean Vogt. He survives.

Mrs. Vogt was an avid candy maker. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting and cross-stitching. She cherished her friendships in the Pulaski County Krazy Quilter Club. She had a zeal for gardening and photography. Music was a big part of her life, especially at Christmastime. Over the years, she sang in numerous music groups and played the French horn, piano, and organ. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her passion in life was supporting her family which was evident in her faithful attendance to her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. From her family: “Her strong faith in our Lord Jesus Christ was evidenced in her selfless demeanor and the many ways in which she brought joy into our lives. We will miss her infectious smile, contagious laughter, and compassionate empathy.”
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery in Francesville.

FRANCESVILLE - Leonard Carl “Sonny” Garling, 83, of Francesville, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 21, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Nov. 13, 1937 in Francesville to the late Carl Fredrick and Tena Orpha Kruger Garling. He was the youngest of five children and only son, earning him the affectionate nickname of “Sonny.” He married Evelyn Sue Jenkins on Feb. 27, 1965. She survives.

Mr. Garling spent his early life learning to farm with his father, teasing and being teased by his sisters, and exploring with his best friend, Merl. When he was 18 years old, he bought his first property and began to fulfill his vocation as a farmer, while simultaneously working the midnight shift at Eatons. He spent his adult life farming the land his parents cultivated before him. In 1963, he met a young woman named Evelyn at a square dance and invited her to see an Elvis Presley movie. They were married in a blizzard, driving through the fields to make it to their rehearsal. After 56 years of marriage, Evelyn maintains that he pursued her. Mr. Garling was a dedicated member of St. James Salem United Church of Christ, serving over the years as Sunday School superintendent, church board member and cemetery sexton. He loved to play music and spend time with his family. He is remembered as a father who never missed a ball game. He will be remembered for his teasing jokes, bouncing polka skills, unfailing work ethic, easy smile, and willingness to serve his family and neighbors at any time of day or night. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving wife and family. The family wishes to thank Elara Caring Hospice for its thoughtful service and tender care in the final days of Leonard’s life.
Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 25, at St. James Salem United Church of Christ in Francesville. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., Monday, at the church with Pastor Nelda Seger officiating. Burial will be at St. James Salem Cemetery in Francesville.

He was born Oct. 15, 1926 in Elwood, to the late Forrest Sr. and Pauline Lambertson Van Ness. He married Thelma Irene Groce, who preceded him in death.

Rev. Van Ness served as a pastor for many years and worked at Chrysler in New Castle. He enjoyed visiting with people and never knew a stranger. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His grandchildren were his ultimate joy. He will be forever missed.

WINAMAC- Rev. David Earl Nabinger, 82, of Logansport, passed away Monday, Oct. 18, in Logansport.
He was born March 6, 1939 in Cleveland to the late Arthur F. and Frances Graff Nabinger. He married Idella Jean Montgomery on Sept. 14, 1986 in Cleveland. She survives.

Rev. Nabinger was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Logansport. He attended St Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac. He was an ordained minister of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. He had pastored churches in Arcadia Fla. and in Illinois. He had worked as a teacher, school principal and football coach in Brunswick and Cleveland, Ohio for 25 years. He graduated Cawttaba University and Concordia Theological Seminary (Class of 2005) in Fort Wayne. He enjoyed football and woodworking. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 22, at St Luke Lutheran Church, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., Friday, at the church with Pastor Tom Woodley officiating. Burial will be at Shiloh Christian Cemetery in Logansport.

FRANCESVILLE - Loretta J. Garling, 84, of Monticello, passed away Monday, Oct. 18, at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello.
She was born Sept. 15, 1937 in Crown Point, to the late Roscoe and Esther Clerget Elston. After graduating from South Port High School, she attended Ball State University. She later completed her bachelor and master of science degrees in education at Purdue University. She married Melvin A. Garling, June 14, 1956. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Garling retired in 2000 after 27 years as an elementary school teacher. She then participated in the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She especially enjoyed teaching fourth grade and Indiana History. She was a longtime member of St. James Salem United Church of Christ, Francesville, where she participated in the ladies guild, sang in the choir, directed the bell choir, and sponsored the youth group. She had a beautiful voice and belonged to the White County Chorus and Pulaski County Chorus for several years. She traveled to Europe and sang with the Pulaski County Chorus. She enjoyed reading, history, traveling, and treasured spending time with her family. She was a very loving, giving person and will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 22, at St. James Salem United Church of Christ in Francesville. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., Friday, at the church with Rev. Nelda Seger officiating. Burial will be at St. James Salem Cemetery in Francesville. Due to health reasons, the family respectfully requests that attendance be limited to those who have been fully vaccinated.
