Terrill D. Hoover

November 18, 1935 to December 15, 2022

KEWANNA - Terrill "Tate" Dean Hoover, 87, of Winamac passed away at 5:50 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 15, at Hickory Creek Healthcare Center in Winamac.

Tate Hoover

Born Nov. 18, 1935, in Winamac, he was the son of the late Cecil and Jessie (Tyler) Hoover. He attended grade school at Fairview, then high school at Winamac where he graduated in 1953. He loved baseball and was the starting pitcher for Winamac his entire four-year career. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving as a military police officer in Italy.

Survivors include a brother, Larry Hoover of Winamac, several nieces and nephews and longtime friend, Sharon Cowley.

He was preceded in death by brother, Steven (Butch), niece, Karla Jo Knebel Rausch and sister, Sandra Sue Hoover Knebel.

After he was honorably discharged from the army, Mr. Hoover became a Winamac town police officer for a couple years until he landed a job at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City where he worked hard and was quickly promoted to captain. He remained there for about 12 years until he was transferred to the Indianapolis Women’s Prison, where he worked for about 10 years. He then worked for the Pulaski County surveyor until he retired. If he wasn’t at work, you could more than likely find him outdoors as he was an avid hunter, especially for squirrels, fly fisherman, and he had a lifelong passion for guns and target shooting.

A celebration of life service with military rites will be at 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Metzger Chapel, Kewanna. A gathering of family and friends will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Sandra R. Wilson

March 14, 1939 to December 15, 2022

WINAMAC - Sandra Rae Wilson, 83, of Rensselaer (formerly of Hebron), passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac.

She was born March 14, 1939 in Winfield Township, Lake County, IN to the late Cecil Raymond and Mabel Lucy [Einspahr] Kenney. She was valedictorian of Lowell High School in 1958. She married Charles Neal Wilson in 1959. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Wilson and her husband were very active in modern western square dancing until his death in 1992. Sandy enjoyed reading and crocheting. She loved her family very much and will be sadly missed.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Kewanna United Methodist Church, 111 E. Pearl St., Kewanna. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon (Wednesday), at the church, with Pastor Jeff Herron officiating. Private family burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso.

Infant Edward R. B. Wolfe

October 7, 2022 to December 14, 2022

WINAMAC - Infant Edward Rebel Bradley Wolfe passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14.

He was born Oct. 7, in LaPorte.  His mommy and daddy lovingly called him “Precious,” because he was perfect, beautiful and precious.  Although he was only with us for two months and seven day, he left us a lifetime of love, compassion, endurance, and faith.

Mr. West was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed the outdoors and playing basketball. He will be sadly missed.

Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 23, at Goodway Baptist Church in Medaryville. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. (Friday), at the church. Burial will be at Goodway Cemetery in Medaryville.

Robert W. Hoover

April 21, 1961 to December 9, 2022

WINAMAC - Robert Wayne Hoover, 61, of Knox (formerly of Avilla, IN and Winamac), passed away Friday, Dec. 9, at Northwest Health Hospital in LaPorte.

He was born April 21, 1961 in Logansport, to the late William H. and Pauline Mae [Rose] Hoover Jr. He graduated from Winamac Community High School in 1979.

Mr. Hoover had worked at numerous factories, including Winamac Coil Spring, Nesco, and Galbreath. He had also helped install field tile with Neidlinger and delivering trailers for Hoosier Transport. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, playing computer games, and sewing. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Private family graveside services will be take place at a later date. Entombment will be at Winamac Cemetery.

Shelle J. Malott Galbreath

November 18, 1964 to December 8, 2022

ROYAL CENTER - Shelle J. Galbreath, 58, of Winamac passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Thursday, Dec. 8, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born Nov. 18, 1964 in Rochester, she was the daughter of George and Betty (Reinholt) Malott. She was a 1983 Winamac Community High School graduate. On May 7, 1988 she married Eric Galbreath. He survives.

Survivors also include children, Nichole (Noah) Hawkins of Linton, Ryan (Holly) Galbreath of Winamac and Whitney (Kyle) Minnick of Winamac; mother, Betty Malott of Winamac; brothers, Randy (Rhonda) Malott of Star City and Gregg (Kris) Malott of Winamac; and grandchildren, Cambry, Bryant, Reece, Rory and Margo.

She was preceded in death by her father, George Malott, her grandparents Alfred and Rosie Reinholt, and George and Martha Malott.

Mrs. Galbreath enjoyed spending time with her family the most. As a selfless person, she always put her children and grandkids first. She made sure her grandkids were always spoiled, with the cabinets full of cookies, donuts and sweets. Her children were everything to her. She was always there for them no matter what and continued to make dinners and send care packages for them even in their adult years. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas. She loved planning the family gathering, giving gifts to her family and their annual Black Friday tradition. Her smile was truly infectious and would light up a room. She will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her.  

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the celebration of life service and a time of sharing memories at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the Winamac Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow at the Winamac Cemetery.
