Helen M. Jones

ROYAL CENTER - Helen M. Jones, 91, of Star City passed away at 5:45 p.m., Friday, June 28, at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born on Jan. 14, 1922 in Cass County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Blanche (Morrison) Clary. On Feb. 2, 1942 she married Roy M. Jones. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2008.
Survivors include her children, Sammy K. Jones (Pam) of Star City, Rex E. Jones (Connie) of Indianapolis, Joan Z. Marks of Indianapolis and Susan Machata of Florida; grandchildren, Debbie (David) Applegarth, Scott (Jamie) Marks, Morgan Jones, Joshua Jones, Christy (Craig) Coon, Ryan (Leah) Jones, Amy Jones, Michael (Juliana) Machata, Matthew Machata and Jessica (Julio) Delgado; and great grandchildren, Jacob, Nicholas and David Applegarth, Cooper and Layla Marks, Sophia and Aidan Jones, Lindsey, Lucas and Katelyn Coon and Andrew Michael Machata.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Cecil and Russell, sisters, Ruth, Bernice, Charlotte and Bonnie Lou, and, son-in-law, Richard “Dick” Marks,
Mrs. Jones was a 1940 Lucerne High School graduate. She was a member of Star City United Methodist Church. She was a lifelong farmwife and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, but most of all spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was very proud that all 10 of her grandchildren graduated from college.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel; and also one hour prior to the service on Monday. The funerall service will be at 11:30 a.m., Monday (July 1), at the funeral home with Pastor David Sommers officiating. Burial will be at Kistler Cemetery, Royal Center.

Marcella Good
February 1, 1922 to July 12, 2013
WINAMAC - Marcella Jane Good, 89, Winamac, passed away at 8:02 p.m., Friday, July 12, at the Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac.
She was born Feb. 1, 1922, in Logansport, to the late Charles Samuel and Pearl Frick Fife. She married Darl L. Good on May 31, 1941. He died March 27, 2011.

Mrs. Good was a member of the Pulaski Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Delta Sigma Tau Sorority, Iris-Elm Garden Club, Federated Women's Club and an Extension Homemakers Club. She was a 4-H leader for many years. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family. She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, knitting and gardening.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday (July 18), 2013, at the f;uneral home. Burial will be in Pulaski Presbyterian Cemetery, Pulaski.
Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimers Association or the charity of the donor's choice.
Thomas W. Davis
May 26, 1920 to July 10, 2013
WINAMAC - Thomas W. Davis, 93, of Winamac, died Wednesday, July 10, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.
He was born May 26, 1920, in Star City, to the late Otis and Blanch Fahler Davis. He married Ruby L. Reinholt. She died April 28, 2007. He later married Veneda L. Galbreath Hoesel. She survives.

Great-grandchildren: Aaron MacNeal, Noah MacNeal, Ruby Krugh, and Olivia Krugh.

Mr. Davis was a U.S. Navy veteran. He served on the USS Rockdale in the Pacific during World War II. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He also was an insurance agent, a plumber, and a volunteer fireman.
Mr. Davis was a member of the Star City United Methodist Church and the Winamac VFW 1728. He enjoyed tinkering, driving his golf cart with his cat named Cat (White Mountain), buying and riding in cars and watching the river. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an imaginative story teller and his kids and grandkids will always remember his facinating tales and life lessons.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Star City United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11 a.m., at the church, with Rev. Ruth Waite officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Star City West Cemetery, Star City. The VFW and American Legion will conduct military graveside services.

Howard L. Mitchell Jr.
December 20, 1972 to July 6, 2013
MEDARYVILLE - Howard Lance Mitchell Jr, 40, died Saturday, July 6, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
He was born Dec. 20, 1972 in Rensselaer, a son of Lottie Conley De Los Santos and the late Howard Lance Mitchell Sr.

He is survived by his mother and step-father Hector De Los Santos of Myrtle Beach; one sister, Ronda Suzzett Mitchell of Conway; two half-sisters, Miranda Mitchell Reyna (Hector) of Dallas TX, and Bobbie Jo Stalbaum (Butch) of Medaryville; four nephews, Eddie Gravitt, Levi Reyna, Derrick Stalbaum and Devon Stalbaum; three nieces, Stephanie Risner, Dakota Stalbaum and Darian Stalbaum.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by one sister April Risner Richter and one nephew Matthew Risner.
Mr. Mitchell loved sports and was a well-known football player and wrestler in the Kenosha, Wis. area where he set many high school records while playing at Tremper High School. He received a football scholarship and played two years at Butler University before becoming disabled. He was employed at Sealy Components for many years.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday (July 10), at Conway Church of God with Rev. Elmer Conley and Rev. Stuart Jacobs officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday (July 13), at Independence Cemetery in Medaryville. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m., at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville, prior to the graveside service.

July 12, 1923 to July 8, 2013
FRANCESVILLE - Lynn L. Kopka, 89, of Francesville, passed away at 9:24 a.m., Monday, July 8, at his residence in Francesville.
He was born on July 12, 1923 to the late John and Frieda Kaupke Kopka. He married Alice M. Pfledderer on Nov. 6, 1949 in Francesville. She passed away Feb. 23, 2003.

Mr. Kopka was a 1941 graduate of Medaryville High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #228. He was a member of the St. James-Salem United Church of Christ in Francesville where he had served on the church board many times over the years. He had worked at Francesville Drain Tile Co. for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially taking care of his yard, garden, flowers and feeding the squirrels. He was a loving father and brother and a great friend to all. He will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville; and one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Friday. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday (July 12), at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville, with Pastor T.J. Jenney officiating. Kenneth D. Tiede
May 18, 1924 to July 7, 2013
FRANCESVILLE - Kenneth Devon Tiede, 89, of Francesville, passed away at 12:30 a.m., Sunday, July 7, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville.
He was born on May 18, 1924 to the late John C. and Ferne Riggs Tiede. On June 26, 1949, he married Marjean Moncel in Francesville. She passed away July 4, 1999.

Mr. Tiede was a graduate of Medaryville High School. After high school, he worked at Kingsbury Ordinance Plant and Gutwein Milling Co. He was the "dynamite man" for Ward Stone Co. in Francesville and went on to haul livestock for Auggie Moncel. After retirement, he enjoyed working on the farm with Big Mike.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #228 in Francesville. He enjoyed raising roses and giving them to all the ladies in town. He was a Chicago Cubs and NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday (July 10), at the funeral home with Pastor James Ketchen officiating. Burial will be in Bowman White Post Cemetery, Francesville. The American Legion will conduct military graveside services.

WINAMAC - Ann Amelia Selle, 91, Winamac, passed away at 6:55 a.m., Saturday, July 6, at Pulaksi Memorial Hospital, Winamac.
She was born Aug. 8, 1921, in Winamac, to the late John and Rose Poole Kruzick. She married Forrest Dixon on May 10, 1946, in Winamac. He passed away Jan. 28, 1969. She then married Wilfred Selle on Sept. 5, 1970 in Winamac. He passed away Feb. 16, 1973.

Mrs. Selle attended school at St. Peter's parochial and Winamac High School. In 1944 she enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Womens Army Corp (WACS) and was discharged in 1946. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Ladies of Charity, Christian Mothers, and an associate member of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ. She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pulaski, and had formerly lived in Star City. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The rosary will be recited at 7:15 p.m., followed by a Christian Mothers service. A scriptural wake service will follow at 7:30 p.m., all at the funeral home. The funeral mass will be at 2 p.m., Thursday (July 11) at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Winamac, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Winamac.
