Doris A. Thompson

July 6, 1946 to November 19, 2013

WINAMAC - Doris A. Thompson, 67, of Winamac, (formerly of Monon) died at 10:40 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born July 6, 1946 in Rensselaer, to the late Clarence and Irene Lewellen Allen. On April 11, 1966, she married Wilbur E. "Red" Thompson in Lakeland, FL. He passed away July 27, 2013.

Mrs. Thompson was a longtime resident of White County. She had worked as a nurse's aide for 20 years in Wolcott. She also had worked in the deli at Walmart in Monticello. She retired in 2010. She was a member of Calvary Temple Church of Monticello, and she was currently attending Calvary Baptist Church of Winamac. She enjoyed fishing, spending time with her grandchildren and her dog, Cindy. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Friday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday (Nov. 23), at the funeral home with Pastor David Norris officiating. Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery, Monon

Memorial donations may be given to Calvary Baptist Church of Winamac or Pulaski Animal Control.
 

Johnathon Henke

January 3, 1978 to November 12, 2013

 

WHEATFIELD - Johnathon E. Henke, 35, of Medaryville, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12.

He was born Jan. 3, 1978 to Stephen A. and Roberta (Fugate) Henke in Crown Point. The parents survive.

He is also survived by son Blake, fiance’ Holli Keen, Keen's children Darian Keen, Kobie Queen and Bodey Queen; and two brothers Richard Henke and Bryan Henke.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Mr. Henke is a graduate of West Central High School and worked as a laborer. He enjoyed working on cars.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2 to 4 p.m. (CST), Sunday, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove St.,

Wheatfield. The funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. (CST) (Sunday, Nov. 17), at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.

Paul D. Lowry

September 21, 1946 to November 14, 2013

LEBANON - Paul D. Lowry, 67, Thorntown (formerly of Francesville) died at 5:45 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, at St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette.

He was born Sept. 21, 1946, in Jasper County, a son of the late Donald Harold and Alice Catherine Bayless Lowry. He married Dianna J. Whiteley on Aug 30, 1990, in Lebanon. She survives.

Also surviving are:

Three Children: Mary Ann Pace and husband, Brian – Bedford, Christine Clark and husband, Richard – Remington, and  Michael Gill and wife, Sherri – Brownsburg.

Brother: Richard E. Lowry and wife, Martha – Francesville

Two Sisters: Mary A. Everidge and husband, Eldon – Rockville, and Donna B. Wen and husband, Richard – Minneapolis

Two Sisters-in-law: Phyllis Lowry – Reynolds, and Carol L. Lowry – Francesville

Brother-in-law: Fred Whiteley and wife, Sherry – Lebanon

Eleven Grandchildren:  Holley, Justin, David, Cody, Josie, Carson, Jayden, Anthony, Thomas, Angela, and John Paul.

Several Nieces and Nephews

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth F. Lowry, Dean D. Lowry and James A. Lowry; and three sisters, Mildred K. Lowry, Sharon Lowry and Louise Lowry.

Mr. Lowry was a life-long resident of Francesville until his recent move to Thorntown where he resided for this past year. He graduated from Francesville High School with the class of 1964. In 1966, he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps. and served his country honorably during the Vietnam War having been discharged in 1968.  In Francesville, he operated the family grain farm with his brother, Dean, for many years. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Lowry took great pride in his family.  Having a love for the farm life, he enjoyed being a part of the Prairie Gold Rush Minneapolis Moline Club. He occasionally helped with the military honor squad in Francesville as well. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Francesville, and the American Legion Post # 228 in Francesville.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Monday (Nov. 18), at Francesville First Christian Church, Francesville, with Rev. James Ketchen, officiating.  Calling will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m., at the church. Interment with military rites will follow at the Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.

Evelyn E. Markley

February 17, 1925 to November 17, 2013

WINAMAC - Evelyn E. Markley, 88, of Kewanna,  died at 6:52 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 17, at the IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.

She was born Feb. 17, 1925, in Winamac, to the late Carl Elias and Ethel Eva Hartwick Hall. She married Harris John Markley in 1962. He died Oct. 1, 1978.

Mrs. Markley had worked at Switches at Leiters Ford, and at Kewanna Metal Specialties in Kewanna. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary Post 1121 in Kewanna. She was a member of the FOE 2580 in Winamac, for over 30 years. She enjoyed riding her three-wheeled bicycle, making sock monkeys and collecting chicken memorabilia. She also enjoyed playing cards. She always had a family gathering on the third of July during the Kewanna fireworks that she called the "Happy Everything Party". 

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday (Nov. 21), 3, at the funeral home wiith Pastor Todd Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Winamac Cemetery, Winamac

Freddie J. Hagen

August 4, 1936 to November 15, 2013

WINAMAC - Freddie J. Hagen, 77, Winamac, passed away at 11:50AM Friday, Nov. 15, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.

He was born Aug. 4, 1936, in Winamac, to Fredrick and Anna C. Jensen Hagen. He married Dorothy J. (Stellter) Hagen on Aug. 6, 1960 at First United Methodist Church Winamac. She survives.

For a period of time, Mr. Hagen was a livestock and grain farmer. He later worked as a welder at Thermo Products in North Judson until his retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he loved to garden. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Bertha Fugate

October 14, 1934 to November 14, 2013

MEDARYVILLE - Bertha Fugate, 79, of Francesville (formerly of Medaryville), passed away at 8:50 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home, Francesville.

She was born Oct. 14, 1934 in Salyersville, KY to the late Tony and Sarah Jordan Trusty.

Mrs. Fugate was a retired CNA and had worked at the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette for 13 years. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She loved her dogs, Dutches and Casper. She was a caring Christian woman. She enjoyed attending Bailey's Corner Church. 

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m., (Saturday, Nov. 16), at the funeral home with Pastor Ed Trusty officiating. Private burial will be in Denham Cemetery, Denham.

Memorial donations may be given to to the funeral home to help cover funeral expenses. 

Bernard J. Rakowski

April 22, 1924 to November 10, 2013

WINAMAC - Bernard J. Rakowski, 89, of Ora, passed away at 9 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 10, at his home.

He was born on April 22, 1924 in Chicago, to the late John and Alice Luczak Rakowski. He married Ozetta Daisy Paszek on Oct. 16, 1954, in Scottsdale, AZ. She passed away on April 20, 2011.

Mr. Rakowski graduated from Washington Trade School in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Army 1st Battalion 179th Infantry 45th Infantry Division during WorldWar II. He survived the Battle of Anzio and helped liberate Dachau Prison. He retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1989, where he had worked as a material coordinator. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Monterey where he had formerly been a CCD instructor. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Chesterton, as well as the Knights of Columbus and Legions of Mary in Scottsdale. He enjoyed reading, whistling, and spending time with his family.

A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m., Friday, (Nov, 15), at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Monterey, with Rev. Bert Woolson and Rev. Terrence Bennis officiating. A graveside service will follow at 12 noon, at St. Anne's Cemetery, Monterey. The American Legion will conduct military graveside services.

Memorial donations may be given to Pulaski Memorial Hospice or St. Anne's Catholic Church for Mass Intentions.

Cremation arrangments have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary, Winamac.
