Arthur D. Seman

February 20, 1926 to April 24, 2014

WINAMAC - Arthur D. Seman, 88, Martinsville (formerly of Winamac), passed away at 4:46 p.m.,Thursday, April 24, at Franciscan St. Francis Health, Indianapolis.

He was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Darke County, OH, to the late Rueben and Rosa Foreman Seman. He married Judy E. McGinnis on Dec. 21, 1950, in Union City.She survives.

A native of Darke County, OH, Mr. Seman entered the U.S. Army in 1945 and retired at the rank of staff sargent in 1969. He was a paratrooper and served in Korea. Following his retirement from the Army he and his family moved to Winamac. He was first employed at Plymouth Tube and then he retired from Winamac Steel. He enjoyed building and flying remote controlled aircraft. 

Visitation will be after 1 p.m., Sunday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., (Sunday, April 27), at the funeral home with Pastor David Norris officiating. Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services. 

Memorial donations may be given to the American Legion Post #71 or VFW Post #1728. 

Jeff Garten

January 30, 1977 to April 22, 2014

FRANCESVILLE - Jeffrey Andrew "Jeff" Garten, 37, Peru, passed away after a long battle with diabetes Tuesday, April 22. at his home.

He was born Jan. 30, 1977 in Logansport.

Mr. Garten graduated from West Central High School in 1995 where he was active with the Melodyaires choral group. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy just as his Grandfather Garten had done. He served at Atsugi and Yokosuka Naval Bases in Japan from 1996-2003. He also served on the USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG-54) Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer while in Japan. He obtained the rank of Gunners Mate. He took advantage of the Navy's promise to see the world and was able to make friends with a wide variety of people. He was a graduate of Lincoln Tech in Indianapolis. He enjoyed working with his hands. He loved his family and will be dearly missed.

A private service will be held at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel Francesville, with Pastor James Ketchen officiating. Following cremation, private burial will be at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville. The American Legion will conduct military graveside services.

Bernice M. Rose

January 18, 1932 to April 21, 2014

WINAMAC - Bernice M. Rose, 82, of Winamac, passed away at 6:58 a.m., Monday, April 21, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac.

She was born Jan. 18, 1932, in Francesville, to the late Carl and Tena Kruger Garling. She married Charles A. Rose Sr. on Oct. 28, 1950 in Francesville. He survives.

Mrs. Rose was a member St. James Salem United Church of Christ in Francesville, and the Ladies Guild of the church. She was known for her pie baking. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, growing flowers and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday (April 24), at the funeral home with Pastor T.J. Jenney officiating. Burial will be at St. James-Salem Cemetery, Francesville.

Memorial donations may be given to St. James Salem Church of Christ Endowment Fund at the Pulaski County Community Foundation. 

Thomas W. Osby

April 11, 1933 to April 17, 2014

WINAMAC - Thomas W. "Tom" Osby, 81, of Winamac passed away Thursday, April 17, at his home in Winamac.

He was born on April 11, 1933 in Hebron, to the late William Robert and Lucille Bryant Osby. He married Nancy L. Sloan on May 5, 1956 in Crown Point. She passed away Dec. 29, 2010.

Survivors include:
Laura A.( Ron) Barney, Portage, Daughter & Son-in-law
Carrie S. (Chris) Melton, Valparaiso, Daughter & Son-in-law
Grandcildren: Michael Osby, Kyle Osby, Holly VanDeVelde, Pam (Tim) Leyden, Steve Melton, and Val Melton.
Great-grandchildren: Tommy Vandevelde, Olivia Vandevelde, Jasmin Flores, Maurice Vandevelde, Nicholas Leyden, and Ava Osby.

Preceded in death by:
Michael T. Osby, Son
2 Brothers and 1 Sister

Mr. Osby served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a life-long plumber and a member of the plumbers and pipe fitters union. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and working with his hands. He loved his family and will be dearly missed.

No services will be held.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary, Winamac.

Wanda L. Bailey

January 2, 1945 to April 17, 2014

WINAMAC - Wanda L. Bailey, 69, of Star City, died at 11:50 a.m., Thursday, April 17, at Rivercrest Specialty Hospital, Mishawaka.

She was born Jan. 2, 1945, in New Chicago, IN, to the late John and Ruby Schwartz. She married Lee Winfield Bailey on Jan. 3, 1963 atLake Station. He died Sept. 8, 2013.

Mrs. Bailey enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family. She was a former member of the Moose Lodge.

Karen S. Kripisch

July 15, 1956 to April 15, 2014

MEDARYVILLE - Karen Sue Kripisch, 57, of Winamac, formerly of Medaryville, passed away at 5:32 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, at Rensselaer Care Center, Rensselaer.

She was born on July 13, 1956 in Winamac to the late Harold C. and Edna Wells Kripisch.

Ms. Kripisch lived in Medaryville for 29 years with her parents and moved to Winamac in 1985 when her mother passed away. She worked at PEAK Community Services for many years and enjoyed the social events they sponsored. She especially liked bowling, dancing, and parties. She was a member of Soul's Harbor Church in North Judson, and enjoyed praise and worship. She was a blessing to all that knew her.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Friday, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville. The funeral service will at 2:30 p.m., Friday (April 18), at the funeral home with Tom Kripisch officiating. Burial will be at White Post Cemetery, Medaryville.

Memorial donations may be given to PEAK Community Services or Soul's Harbor Church.
