Howard K. Blackman
December 8, 1922 to August 27, 2014
ROYAL CENTER - Howard “Blackie” K. Blackman, 91, of Headlee passed away at 3:07 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born on Dec. 8, 1922 in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Ottis and Xenclea (Harriett) Blackman. On Dec. 8, 1948 he married Wilma Martin.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Wilma Blackman of Headlee, his children, Terry Blackman, Tom Blackman (Cindy) all of near Headlee, Ron Blackman (Cindy) of Logansport and Jeannie Knauff (Vince) of Denver, grandchildren, Rob Blackman (Stephanie) of Zionsville, Ryan Blackman of Idaville, Ricki Westerhouse (Matt) of Buffalo, Rhiana Lavender (Joe) of Star City, Gracie Byroad (Danny) of Star City, Mason Blackman (Lindsey) of Pulaski, Melissa Hoover of Francesville, Chantel Crawn (Jeremy) of Idaville, Tasha Blackman of Indianapolis and Chad Haselby (Christy) of Silver Lake. He is also survived by 28 great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Donna Baker Blackman, sisters, Winafred Helvie, Genevieve Brandt, Helen Huddleston and Mabel Hilgeman, brothers, George Blackman, Bill Blackman, Burl Blackman, Don Blackman and Harry Blackman, 1 infant granddaughter and 2 infant great granddaughters.
Mr. Blackman was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving in France, Belgium and Holland. He was a heavy equipment operator retiring in 1987 from Deichman Excavating, and he was a member of the Operator of Engineers Local #103. After retirement, he formerly owned and operated Blackman Excavating for over 30 years.
He was also a member of White Oak United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 81 in Monticello, and he was a 50-year member of the Royal Center Masonic Lodge. His main hobby was “always working” but he also enjoyed fox and coon hunting, fishing, square dancing and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s school sporting events.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, at at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Homes, Royal Center Chapel and also one hour prior to the service on Monday. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday (Sept. 1), at the funeral home with Pastor Adam Speicher officiating. Burial with military rites will be performed at Pro Cemetery near Headlee.
Memorial donations may be made to White Oak United Methodist Church.
Joan Davis
September 16, 1927 to August 17, 2014
WINAMAC - Joan C. Davis, 86, Heddonfield, NJ, formerly of Winamac, passed away at 5:01 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 17, at Kennedy University Hospital, Cherry Hill, NJ.
She was born Sept. 16, 1927, in Winamac, to the late Paul and Margaret Grabner Davis.

Ms. Davis was a native of Winamac and lived in New Jersey most of her life. She was a member of the Catholic faith. She was a longtime employee of Pulini Produce in Camden, NJ.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday (Aug. 30), at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Winamac, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Winamac.
Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary, Winamac.
Sharon Tuley
August 2, 1942 to August 15, 2014
WINAMAC - Sharon Tuley, 72 of Winamac, died at 5:35 p.m., Friday, Aug. 15, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 2, 1942 , in Chicago, to the late Daniel and Emily Milka McBlaine.

Ms. Tuley lived in Winamac most of her life. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Winamac. She was a retired executive assistant at Winamac Coil Spring, Kewanna. She enjoyed gardening and took a lot of pride caring for her flowers and yard. Her family was very important to her. She never missed a birthday or a holiday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m., Saturday (Aug. 23), at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Winamac, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating.
Clement F. Good
September 29, 1920 to August 11, 2014
KEWANNA - Clement F. Good, 93, of Kewanna passed away at 4:27 a.m., Monday, Aug.11, at Pulaski Healthcare Center, Winamac.
Born on Sept. 29, 1920 in Farmers City, Ill., he was the son of the late Ray and Goldie (Sparrow) Good. On Feb. 23, 1946 he married Mildred Phillips. She preceded him in death on June 30, 2005.
Survivors include his sons, Marvin Good of Kewanna and Gordon Good (Bonnie) of Rochester, 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Lela May Clark and Jean Ann Phillips and also one great grandson.
Mr. Good was a Winamac High School graduate and a World Ware II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the European Theater with the 80th Blue Ridge Artillery. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Kewanna Church of Christ where he served as an Elder and song leader. He was also a member of American Legion Post #130 and Boy Scouts of America Sagamore Council. He enjoyed riding horses, camping, fishing and later in life, bicycling.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday (Aug. 15), at the funeral home with Pastor Aaron McCombs officiating. Burial with military rites will be performed at Moon Cemetery, Kewanna.
Memorial donations may be made to Kewanna Church of Christ.
Vivian A. Rude
September 15, 1922 to August 11, 2014
KEWANNA - Vivian Avanell Rude, 91, of Winamac passed away at 2:22 a.m., Monday, Aug., 11, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Born on Sept. 15, 1922 in Star City, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Pearl Stoner.
Survivors include her children, Richard S. Rude (Rebecca) of Royal Center, Carolyn S. Wischmann (David) of New Port Richey, Fla., Vivian Howton (Richard) of Elkhart, Ginger Hoekstra (David) of Zeeland, Mich., half brother, Don Dempsey of Palmetto, Fla., 20 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, William Mitchell, daughter, Alice Howard, and brothers, Harold, and Robert Stoner, and sister, Mary Key, one infant grandson and one infant great grandson.
Mrs. Rude was a 1940 Royal Center High School graduate. She was a retired attendant at the Logansport State Hospital and she was also a homemaker. She was a member of Kewanna Church of Christ, Evergreen Rebekah Lodge #57 in Rochester and the Pulaski County Hospital Women’s Auxiliary.
Graveside services will be private at Star City Cemetery with Pastor Aaron McCombs officiating. A Celebration of Life Service will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 14, at Kewanna Church of Christ.

Mary Shearer
September 23, 1928 to June 25, 2014
WINAMAC - Mary Catherine Shearer, 85, of Freeport, IL passed away peacefully of natural causes at her home on June 25, 2014.
She was born Sept. 23, 1928, in Peru, to the late Kyle and Helen Pearson Sharpf. She married Ernest George Shearer on May 2, 1950, in St. Peter's Church in Winamac. He died Jan. 22, 1981.
She is survived by sister, Margaret Stover of Freeport, IL; son, Michael Kyle "Rug" Shearer of Nashville, IN; daughter and son-in-law, Martha "Marty" and Walter Kim Gradolf of Morgantown; son, James Thomas "Jimbo" Shearer of Greenwood; five grandchildren; one granddaughter-in-law; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Shearer enjoyed her family, gardening, and baking, loved antiquing, yard sales, and playing cards, and was a fantastic knitter.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m., Friday (Aug. 15), at St. Peters Cemetery, Winamac.

WINAMAC - Amber Renee Taylor, 34, of Denham, died at 9:08 a.m., Monday, Aug. 11, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 18, 1980, in East Point, GA, to Joe and Teresa Bigley Taylor.

Ms. Taylor was a 1998 graduate of Culver Community High School. She was the director of events at the Trinity School of Natural Health in Warsaw. She was a graduate of Charter College of Health and Massage Therapy in Warsaw. She was a Certified Natural Health Professional. Her passion was natural health. She enjoyed cooking, crafts and any outdoor activity. She was an avid Winamac Warrior Football fan. She was a loving aunt to "her many nieces and nephews". She was a proud Godmother to the Katschke kids Kyle, Blake and Evan.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Friday, at Frain Mortuary. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday (Aug. 16), at The Jackson Estate, Rochester, with Judy Masters officiating.
Memorial donations may be given to the family to help with funeral costs.
