MEDARYVILLE - Howard William Cords, 95, of Medaryville, passed away Thursday, May 30, at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello.

He was born in the family home near Francesville, on April 4, 1929 to the late William and Minnie [Kruger] Cords. He graduated from Medaryville High School in 1947. On June 29, 1968, he married Judith L. “Judy” Selmer, at St. John United Church of Christ near Medaryville. She survives.

As a young boy, Mr. Cords helped his dad with the farming and continued farming for his lifetime, retiring in 2021. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951-52 before being honorably discharged. He was honored to receive a Quilt of Valor in 2017. He was a lifelong member of St. James Salem United Church of Christ near Francesville. He bowled on several leagues and enjoyed going fox hunting with the guys. He enjoyed watching Purdue men’s basketball games on TV, playing a lot of Solitaire on the computer, and working in the shop. Howard and Judy enjoyed square dancing and going on bus tours as well as traveling to Arizona and Minnesota to see family. He was a loving husband, proud dad, and adoring grandpa. He delighted in all of their accomplishments and enjoyed attending all of their activities. Spending time with his family was a precious thing to do, and he dearly loved them all. He will be missed by many.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, at St. James Salem United Church of Christ, Francesville with Pastor Bill McNabney officiating. Burial will be at St. James Salem Cemetery, Francesville. The American Legion will conduct military graveside services.
