FRANCESVILLE - Darrel G. Erb, 72, lifelong resident and farmer of rural Francesville, passed away Friday, July 1.

He was born Nov. 16, 1949 in Lafayette, to the late Neil V. and Melba Ruth [Long] Erb. He graduated with the final class of Francesville High School in 1967.

Mr. Erb’s first job out of high school was working at the Monon stone quarry. He worked full time at Monon Trailer for nearly 20 years until taking over the family farm in the mid-1980s. He was an avid collector of toy tractors. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and playing golf. He coached his sons’ baseball teams and supported his grandchildren in all of their activities. He was a father-figure to many who valued his advice. He loved his family very much, especially his sons to whom he imparted much wisdom.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 11, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, at the funeral home with Brian Huber officiating. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery in Francesville.
