William Hughes

September 30, 1937 to January 9, 2020

MEDARYVILLE - William David “Bill” Hughes, 82, of Medaryville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He died peacefully, surrounded by his family, after sustaining injuries in an automobile accident Monday.

He was born Sept. 30, 1937 in Salyersville, KY to the late Virgil and Stella Prater Hughes. He was a lifelong resident of Medaryville.

Mr. Hughes owned and operated Hughes and Son wrecker service in Medaryville for many years. He also worked at Plymouth Tube in Winamac, and retired as a supervisor from American Oak in North Judson. He was a hard worker and always supported his family. He enjoyed fishing and scrapping. He had a good sense of humor, “Did you see that little green man?” He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, all of whom he had given a special nickname. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 13, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Medaryville. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home with Pastor Heath Hiatt officiating. Private burial will be at White Post Cemetery in Medaryville.
