August 18, 1936 to October 3, 2019

WINAMAC - Thomas Eugene Cosgray, 83, of Crystal Lake, IL passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, at JourneyCare in Barrington, IL. 

He was born Aug. 18, 1936 in Star City, to Ernest and Ethel Cosgray. He joined the U.S. Army in 1956 after high school graduation. While stationed in France, he enjoyed traveling to many foreign countries. After returning from service, he married Patricia Wentzel on May 10, 1958 in Monterey. She survives.

Also surviving are children Jaqueline Cosgray, Dwayne (Nora) Cosgray, Karen (Jose) Cosgray and Darrel (Betsy) Cosgray; grandchildren, Michelle (Jeremy) Harper, Melissa (Bernie) Malouin, Amy (Harley) Rumentzas, Angela (Drew) Malcovski, Stella Cosgray, Daniel Cosgray, Katie Cosgray and Kyle Cosgray; and four great-grandchildren, Annika, Julianne, Melody and Colton. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Leah Jane Newman, Aldonna Zirkle, Norman Cosgray and Bonnie Markley. 

Mr. Cosgray worked in manufacturing, a career that lasted almost 50 years. In 1970, the family moved to Crystal Lake. There he started a side family business mowing lawns. It grew into Economy Landscaping where Mr. Cosgray and his sons filled their evenings and weekends installing lawns in Crystal Lake subdivisions.

A visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake, IL.

A second visitation will be from 12 noon  to 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 6, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating. Burial will be at St. Anne's Cemetery in Monterey, IN. The American Legion will conduct military graveside services.
