Barbara T. Sandhage

August 16, 1933 to July 24 2019

GREENSBURG - Barbara Teresa Sandhage, 85, of Westport, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 24, at Aspen Place, Greensburg.

She was born Aug. 16, 1933 near Duncombe, IA to Henry J. and Mary A. (Naderman) Stuhrenberg. She attended Immaculate Conception and Napoleon schools. She married Kenneth P. Sandhage on Sept. 6, 1958 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen, IN, and they were happily married for over 60 years.

She is survived by her seven children: Dr. Kenneth H. (Catherine) Sandhage of Lafayette; Karen A. Martin of Danville, IN; Fr. Martin J. Sandhage of Lake Village, IN; Mary E. (Douglas) Rice of Jamestown, IN; Gregory J. Sandhage of Greenwood; Richard A. (Susan) Sandhage of Lafayette; and Victor E. (Jennifer) Sandhage of Kirkwood, MO. She is also survived by her two sisters: Rosemary Maschino of North Vernon; and Sr. Bernetta Stuhrenberg, O.S.F. of Oldenburg, IN.

Additionally, she is survived by her grandchildren: Eryn (John) Kindelin of Hilliard, OH; Sarah Rice of Lafayette; Kyle Sandhage of Chicago; Christopher Sandhage of New Albany, OH; Harrison (Kimberly) Martin of Fort Wayne; Adam Rice of Whitestown; Lillian Martin of Plainfield; Emma Rice of Jamestown, IN; Jackson Sandhage of Kirkwood, MO; and Abigail Sandhage of Kirkwood, MO. She recently became a great-grandmother to Henry Kindelin of Hilliard, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Albert Stuhrenberg; three sisters, Sr. Margaret Mary Stuhrenberg, O.S.F.; Sr. M. Henriette Stuhrenberg, O.C.S.O.; and Mary Ann Wenning. 

After living in Kokomo, for 33 years, Mrs. Sandhage and her husband moved to her family farm near Millhousen, IN in 1995. She enjoyed, and was renowned for her skills at needlework and baking. She was often asked to bake her cherry pie for gatherings of family and friends.

Family and friends will gather at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, July 28, at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg to pray the rosary. Visitation will follow until 5 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends from 10 a.m. until the funeral mass at 11 a.m., Monday, July 29, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen. Interment will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Millhousen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cemetery Fund.
