MEDARYVILLE - Joan M. Smith, 92, of Francesville (formerly of Medaryville and North Judson), passed away Friday, Feb. 1, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home, Francesville where she resided for over 10 years.

She was born Jan. 26, 1927 in Barrow-In-Furness, Lancashire, England to the late William Henry and Beatrice Wells Meadway. She served in the British Army during World War  II. It was during this time she met her future American husband who was serving in the U.S. Army. On March 9, 1946, she married Merrill Smith at St. Mark's Church in Barrow-In-Furness. He passed away March 15, 2007.

She was preceded in death by:

Joe Graves, Brother-in-law

Mrs. Smith was a member of Bethel Bible Church in Winamac. She enjoyed Bible studies. She was a QMA and retired from Little Company of Mary Health Facility in San Pierre. She enjoyed playing card games and Aggravation, as well as doing puzzles. She loved spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Friday, Feb. 8, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon (Friday), at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Dewlen officiating. Burial will be at Walkerton Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton.
