Phyllis A. Hulmes

August 31, 1940 to December 23, 2016

WINAMAC - Phyllis A. Hulmes, 76, of Winamac passed away at 6:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 23, at Miller's Merry Manor, Culver.

She was born Aug/ 31, 1940 in Rankin, IL to the late Lorin and Louise Smith. On Nov. 19, 1960, she married Leonard Hulmes in Rankin. He preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 2010.

Survivors include: 
Julie A. (Thomas) Girton, Monterey, Daughter 
Eric L. (Heather) Hulmes, Winamac, Son 
Janel R. (Christopher) Marsh, Peru, Daughter 
Grandchildren: Megan (Matt) Carter, Casey (Whitney) Girton, Shane Hulmes, Tanner Hulmes, Riley Schultz, Sadie Schultz, and Torin Marsh. 
Great-Grandchildren: Reese Carter, Breelyn Carter, Sydney Girton, Kaylee Girton, and Hunter Girton. 
Sisters: Beverly Overbey, Carolyn Unzicker, aNancy (Dennis) Hari, and Jean Swanson. 
Brothers: Robert Nease, Tom (Dolly) Nease, and Larry (Pam) Nease.

Preceded in death by: 
Lorin and Louise Smith Nease, Parents

Mrs. Hulmes graduated from Rankin High School and also completed beauty school in Champaign, IL. She was an active member of the Monterey United Methodist Church where she served as the pianist for over 30 years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and was well known for her homemade noodles. She was not only a hairdresser, but also an equal partner in the farming operation. She was also proud to be a homemaker. Mrs. Hulmes enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, and crocheting. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling with her friend Sandi Holcomb. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She will be dearly missed by all. 

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac; and one hour prior to services at the church Thursday. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, at Monterey United Methodist Church with Pastor Kevin Marsh officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Cemetery, Monterey.
