INDIANAPOLIS - Donald Boulden Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 7.

He was born Aug. 7, 1928 to Donald Sr. and Lillian Tiede Boulden of Winamac, where he grew up. He was married for 63 years to JoAnne Prall Boulden who who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children, Jill, Kimberly and Mark; grandchildren Tyler (Michelle Wilcox) and Riley Boulden; sisters Joan (Moss) and Bette (Varga); many loving nieces, nephews and his cousin Loren Tiede.

He was a loving father, husband, grandfather and uncle. He served in the U.S. Army during the occupation in Japan. He attended Butler University where he met his wife. He retired from a career as a real estate broker which he embarked on early in life after his initial career in the post office. This reflected his entrepreneurial and adventurous spirit. In retirement, he enjoyed playing tennis until his early eighties. He was called "twinkle toes" by his tennis competitors who were often much younger. He also enjoyed snow skiing, white water rafting and camping. His active lifestyle was an inspiration to many.
He taught his children a love of the outdoors as he regularly took them camping when they were young. He humbly gave to many charities and volunteered several years for Meals on Wheels delivering food to the homebound. He also enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels daily. Mr. Boulden was a joyful man who enjoyed humor, athletics, western movies, Frank Sinatra, his family, his poodle dogs and living in the moment.

He was the only son of four siblings. His sisters, Maxine who preceded him in death along with Bette and Joan shared much time together while raising their children. He adored his sisters and their extended family where he was affectionately known as "Uncle Bud."

His children want to thank the staff at Hooverwood Nursing Center who took exceptional care of their beloved father while he resided there.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 18, with services to follow at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, 740 East 86th St., Indianapolis. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery Mausoleum in Indianapolis.
