Max Odom

May 25, 1924 to December 26, 2015

FRANCESVILLE - Max Odom, 91, longtime resident of the Francesville and Medaryville areas, died Saturday, Dec. 26.

He was born at the family farm in rural Gilliam Township, Jasper County, on May 25, 1924, the son of the late Bryan and Mary Pullins Odom. On May 29, 1949 at Monon Chapel, Max married Beverly J. Long, who survives.

He was the father of four children, three of whom survive, Gregory (Christine) Odom; William (Shereen) Odom; and Leesa (Michael) Gayer. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Kevin Max Odom; an infant granddaughter, Autumn Dawn Skalon; his two sisters, Georgia Utterback and Louise Houston; and his brother, Charles Odom.

Mr. Odom was baptized at Independence Church and graduated from Medaryville High School. He served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II and was a member of the Francesville American Legion. He was a hard worker, who even in retirement continued to work many small jobs to keep busy. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as getting away to Minnesota. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, whom he loved so much. He will be dearly missed.

Mr. Odom's wishes were to be cremated and for his family to gather for a private family burial, at which he requested the American Legion to perform military graveside services. His remains will be laid to rest at Roseland Cemetery in rural Francesville.

Memorial donations may be given to the Francesville American Legion.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville. Online condolences may be offered in the guestbook at www.frainmortuary.com.
