Mabel A. Brown
May 14, 1911 to January 1, 2015
MONON - Mabel Ann Brown, 103, of Monon, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello.
She was born May 14, 1911 in Francesville, to the late Roy and Edith (Grock) Myers and was the eldest of 10 children. Her marriage was to Durward D. "Dude" Brown on May 2, 1931 in Winamac.
Surviving are her two sons, Larry L. Brown (wife: Karilyn) of Monon and John M. Brown of Lafayette; grandchildren, Lea Ann Brown Miller (husband: Don), Lori Brown Runyon (husband: Mitchell), Kimberly Brown Creigh (husband: Gary), Larry L. Brown II, Susan E. Brown Federici (husband: John), Sarah L. Brown Enright (husband: Jarrod) and John M. Brown II; her great-grandchildren, Ember Lea Miller, Abigale Ann Miller, Emily Runyon, Hannah Mabel Runyon, Katelyn Creigh and Larry Michael Creigh. Also surviving are her siblings, Norma Hammel, Jeanne Hawn, Maudelene Allyn and Virgil Myers.
Preceding her in death with her parents and husband are her siblings, Don Myers, Ruth Liebert, Gertrude Godbout, Alyce Onken and Stanley Myers.
Mrs. Brown and her husband lived on a farm outside of Monon for 60 years, where she helped on the farm and worked as a bookkeeper for Dye Lumber Co. many of those years. The couple moved into the town of Monon in 1991 and he passed away shortly after on Feb. 17, 1992. Mrs. Brown was a woman of many talents. She was an excellent bridge player and belonged to many bridge clubs.She was an avid reader and read most of the books in the Monon Library, where she was seen frequently. She made many beautiful quilts, all beautifully stitched by hand. She had a fantastic eye for putting colors together that made them very special. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, calling her great-grandchildren her "great-grans." She was very proud of her children from her sons to her great-grans and will be missed greatly.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 12 noon, Monday, Jan. 5, at Clapper Family Funeral Home of Monon; Rev. Russ Alley to officiate. Interment to follow in Bedford Cemetery, Monon.
A long time member of the Monon United Methodist Church, memorials may be made to the church, the Monon Public Library or the Francesville Christian Church.
