Mary E. Lowe
April 27, 1930 to August. 25, 2014
CASSOPOLIS, MICH. - Mary E. Lowe, 84, of Cassopolis, Mich. died Monday morning, Aug. 25,at her home.
She was born April 27, 1930 in Monterey, to Henry and Helen (Sheaks) Chaney, the second eldest of four girls. She married Alfred Eugene “Bud” Lowe Dec. 24, 1949 in Knox. They enjoyed more than 64 years of marriage until his passing Jan. 19, 2014.
She is survived by two daughters, Karon (Marcus) Wagner of Middlebury, Chrystal Teeter of Cassopolis; two sons, Thomas Lowe of Constantine, Mich. and James Lowe of White Pigeon, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by one daughter, Katrina Lowe; one son, Timmy Lowe; and three sisters, Bessie Bauer, Dorothy Burkett, and Nadine Burkett.
Mrs. Lowe attended school in Monterey where she graduated with high honors in 1948. She and her husband moved to Cassopolis in 1972 where they worked side by side on their farm. She had a roadside stand on Brownsville Road where she enjoyed and took pride in selling sweet corn and many other fresh vegetables that they had grown on their farm. The family remembers people coming from miles around for the watermelons and pumpkins. She also enjoyed bird watching and flowers. Every Sunday the aroma of fried chicken came from Mary’s kitchen as she teased her family about “slaving over the hot stove” for them. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Family and friends will gather at 2 p.m., Tuesday (Sept. 2), for a graveside service at Reames and Norton Cemetery, south of Cassopolis.
The family prefers memorial donations be made in Mrs. Lowe’s name to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P. O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, Tennessee 38101-9908.
