David L. Absher

WINAMAC - David Lee Absher, 58, Winamac, passed away at 1:02 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, at his residence. 

He was born April 18, 1953, in Muncie, to the late Lewis and Bessie Partin Absher.  He married Raye Anne Miller on Oct. 1, 1977. She survives.

Mr. Absher grew up in Muncie, and graduated from Muncie Southside High School in 1971. Following graduation he served in the U.S. Air Force and attended Ball State University, majoring in radio and television. He was employed as a disc jockey for the Ball State University radio station during that time. After his marriage, the couple established their home in Winamac.

 

From 1978-1986, he served two terms as Pulaski County Surveyor before establishing his own registered land surveyor business. During this time he passed the Indiana Land Surveyor Licensing Board in 1984, and also continued his educational pursuits in political science , receiving hs Bachelor of Arts degree from Valparaiso University in 1985. He was an active member of the Indiana Society of Professional Land Surveyors. Since leaving office, he had served as assistant contract engineer for the Pulaski County Surveyor's Office, as well as being a project consultant for the ongoing Monon Ditch reconstruction.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed outdoor activities; spending many hours target shooting, hunting, and fishing with friends. He was a skillful chess player, enjoyed photography, listening to a wide range of music and watching classic movies, especially Westerns. He will be remembered as a man of great intellect, keen wit, quirky humor, and a genuine love and commitment to his friends and his community.

No public visitation or services will be held.

Memorial donations may be given to the Pulaski County Community Foundation to support existing scholarships.
