STATEHOUSE - Rep. Tom Dermody (R-DeMotte) has outlined his goals as the Indiana General Assembly begins its task of adopting a new state budget. "Every two years the General Assembly is tasked with proposing a budget for the state of Indiana," Dermody explained. "The budget gets its start on the House Ways and Means Committee. As a member of the committee, I know we have made it our priority to adopt a budget without increasing taxes and to bring the budget back into structural balance." Hoosier corn will help meet nation’s energy needs SOUTH BEND – Congressman Joe Donnelly applauded an announcement made Friday (Jan.21) by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approving E15 gasoline for vehicles from model years 2001 to 2006. E15 is a blend of gasoline containing 15 percent ethanol, an increase of 50 percent over the previously allowed E10. Since coming to Congress in 2007, Congressman Donnelly has promoted greater ethanol use to create jobs and boost American-made energy. “This expansion of E15-eligible vehicles is great news for Hoosier farmers and ethanol plants,” said Donnelly. “As a result of this decision, our farmers and ethanol plants will see an increase in demand for ethanol and our region will receive an economic boost. Corn grown right here in north central Indiana and processed at facilities like New Energy in South Bend and the Andersons in Clymers will play an even larger role in helping America lessen its dependence on foreign oil.” Read more: Donnelly-backed ethanol boost approved for more vehicles KOKOMO – As most farmers know all too well, when grain prices are good, higher input costs are almost certain to follow. Customers of North Central Co-op learned last week that they can expect rising crude oil prices to impact their fuel costs in 2011. "The supplies of energy aren’t as tight as grain supplies, yet crude oil went over $92 per barrel yesterday,” said Blaine Duxbury, price risk manager for CountryMark. “That’s because those supplies are shrinking rather dramatically due to investors’ expectations of an improving world economy. So where are we headed?
