Friends of the Panhandle Pathway, Inc., receive grant for $1,800 |
Leaders at the Friends of the Panhandle Pathway announced the winning grant from the Community Foundation for expansion of its prairie just in time for the annual meeting. The board members are excited about the new project and grateful for the Community Foundation’s grant opportunities.
The Panhandle Pathway organization is eager to see the prairie grasses and flowers become established along the trail just north of Star City. Mike O’Connor, lead volunteer, comments, “I want to see the flowers in the native prairie pop!”
Milkweed and other pollinator plants will attract monarch and other butterflies.
The good news comes after volunteers cleared trees and brush from the area last fall. The Friends of the Panhandle Pathway hopes that trail users will enjoy the beauty of the prairie area and support continued efforts to enhance and maintain the Panhandle Pathway.
