Class of 2023 Winamac Community High School Hall of Fame inductees Kara Crawford Carreri, Brent Larkin and Mike Pugh.

Kara (Crawford) Carreri was a four-sport athlete while attending Winamac Community High School where she lettered in golf (4), basketball (4), track (2), and softball (2). She is a 2007 Winamac graduate. While participating in those four sports she was able to advance to the regional level in each. Carreri was an all-conference athlete four years in golf where she was also named the MVP all four years of participation. In basketball she was the MidWest Conference and All Loganland player of the year twice. She is second in girls basketball history with 1,248 career points, was a member of the North-South All Star Team, East-West All Star Team and holds the record for season and career field goal percentage. Carreri also helped the Lady Warriors bring home a sectional title after a nine-year drought. In track, She helped break the 1600- and 3200-meter relay record and was ALL- MWC in the 400m dash. In softball, she helped the softball program win its first sectional in school history while also winning back-to-back sectional  championships. Carreri graduated from Grand Valley State University on a full ride basketball scholarship. While at Grand Valley, she started 82 games and had 707 points, 399 rebounds, 119 assists, and 79 steals. She helped lead Grand Valley State to the NCAA tournament.

Carreri’s fondest memory of playing at Winamac was “cutting down the nets at home for a sectional win in basketball after a 10-year drought.”

She now resides in Carmel with her husband Anthony and their son Cal. Carreri works as a product manager at Salesforce.

Brent Larkin was a three-sport athlete while attending Winamac Community High School where he lettered in football (4), basketball (3), and baseball (4). He is a 1991 Winamac graduate. He was a three-year starter in football helping the Warriors to three MidWest Conference championships and was a two-time All-MidWest Conference and All-Loganland member. In basketball, he holds the school record for steals in a season (95), and is tied for most assists in one game (10). He is also ninth all-time in scoring (969 points), third in single game scoring (41 points), and second in single season rebounds (200). Larkin was also a two-time All-MWC and All-Loganland member in basketball. At the time of graduation, Larkin either held numerous baseball records or was second in all those categories. He was a three-time All-MWC member and also a two-time All-Loganland member.

Larkin’s fondest memory of playing at Winamac is “relationships with teammates. Until I researched some of this, I didn’t remember many stats or records but I certainly remember the friendships that were made and some of which I still remain in contact with today.” Larkin also recalled “setting the team record of 124 points in a game is still a great memory. It’s been fun to share stories of our senior year hoops team when my sons while they were playing – I still have family bragging rights (and family records) to this day for some - (Cal/Will both passed my total in career points, but they didn’t pass much, especially to each other!). My sophomore year there were two sets of brothers in the hoops starting lineup Larkin/Larkin/Pugh/Pugh. My brother Kevin was a senior, Mike Pugh was a senior and Dave Pugh (sophomore) were all starters.”

Larkin played college baseball at Bethel, and finished his college career at Ball State. He now resides in Winamac with his wife Jen and he also has three children (Calvin, Will, Lyla). He is employed in commercial sales at BraunAbility.

At the time of graduation, he held five school records for football: longest punt (65 yd), single season average punting (37.4 yd), rush attempts in a single game (36), and rushing yards in a single game (222) – and he held four out of the top 10 single game rushing records). In 1987-89 Pugh was a three-time All-Loganland member, South Bend All-Area member, 1988 All-State football member, and a 1989 North-South Team Shrine Bowl All Star. In golf, Pugh held or still holds three records: individual 9-hole low score (31-

twice), team low score (146), and individual 18-hole low score (68). He was also a medalist at the Kankakee Valley Invitational, a three-time medalist for the Midwest Conference, and was also a two-time Sectional and Regional medalist. He also helped lead the Warriors to the first Regional title by an athletic team in 1989. He was also named the Winamac Athlete of the Year in 1989.

Pugh has a couple “fondest” memories of playing/coaching at Winamac, “Coaching (golf) with relatives/nephews on the team and the conversations while traveling to/from events is something I have never forgotten. Coach Roth's life lessons on working hard and aiming high stuck with me, and still do.”

Pugh graduated from Purdue University, and now resides in Winamac with his wife Samantha, and he also has four children (Devon, Jake, Harley, and Lucy). He is the senior director of research and design for BraunAbility Global.
