In other business, the board went over insurance quotes for the 2011-12 school year. The rates went up around 20% for this year. The board approved a motion to award the property & liability insurance renewal to MacLennan and Bain Insurance.
On the wind engergy project , the board approved a motion to approve the Certificate of Incumbency naming Pamela Ledford and Charles Mellon as authorized individuals for furnishing direction relating to the trust accounts with the Bank of New York Mellon. Ground-breaking for the wind turbine will take place in September.
Principals Tony. Brose and Don Street went over the ISTEP and AYP results from last year. They also discussed the School Improvement Plans for the schools. The board approved the School Improvement Plans as presented.
Under discussion items, Brose stated that the school year is off to a good start with the normal adjustments taking place. Currently, there is a search for an individual to be employed by the corporation to assist two special needs students attending class in Rensselaer. This is an eight-hour position, as the employee will be riding the mini-bus to assist the students during transporting.
Street congratulated the girl’s golf and girls cross country teams as they both won their Bi-County meets. The sixth grade camping trip is scheduled for Sept. 12-13.
The insurance carrier for the corporation is requiring outside groups requesting the use of school buses to provide proof of coverage. A new request form is being developed. A certificate showing proof of insurance will be a required attachment to the request form.
