Prior to the regular meeting board members met in a work session to go over the 2012 school budget, capital projects plan and the bus replacement plan. During the regular session the board then approved a motion to advertise these items.
In his report to the board, Supt. Charles Mellon said the bus inspection went well on Aug. 5. All buses passed inspection, and he thanked Mr. Barngrover for his efforts.
The board reviewed the Vision and Mission Statements and the Strategic Plan. This was a reminder
that decisions of the board should reflect these statements and plan.
The board discussed an email that was sent to a board member expressing concern over the reduction in the number of instructional assistants in the elementary school. Mellon had responded to the email earlier in the day, listing the financial reasons for the reduction and stated that two of the four individuals have been hired back at this time. The parent was assured that the corporation would try to meet the needs of every student with the resources available.
In other business, the board accepted the resignations of chemistry/physics teacher Bobby Quimpo, and cafeteria employee Dawn Oliver.
The board approved the non-certified contracts for the Cooperative School Services; and employment for
John Wasinski as chemistry/physics teacher, Jodie Schlatter as Title I administrator, Kim Shidler as an instructional assistant, Sandy Saltsman as a half-time bus driver, and Kelly Kranz as a bus driver.
The board approved an unpaid leave of absence request from Michelle Potter as presented.
The board appointed Delilah Jordan to the Francesville/Salem Township Public Library Board.
