According to a report from the sheriff’s office, the county 911 center received multiple calls at approximately 4:45 a.m., (May 4) advising a pickup truck had pulled out in front of a semi-truck at the intersection. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Ford F250 traveling northbound on CR 200 W pulled out in front of an eastbound semi-truck on SR 14.
The Pulaski County Coroner’s Office was also called to the scene where Gayheart was pronounced dead by Coroner Jon Frain. The cause and manner of death are pending autopsy and toxicology reports. Next of kin have been notified.
The driver of the semi was released from the scene without injury, according to the police report.
An inspector from the Indiana State Police motor carrier division was on scene to examine the semi, and a crash reconstruction report will be completed by Indiana State Police.
Other agencies assisting on scene were Winamac Police Department, Pulaski County EMS, Pulaski County EMA, and Winamac Fire & Rescue.
