In an April 15 letter to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, company COO Tony Wesner wrote that on June 14, Rose Acre Farms, Inc. will be closing its White County farm. “Employment loss due to the closure will be considered permanent. However, our goal will be to eventually reopen the farm in the future. The number of employees affected is 94.”
Wesner also notified the White County Commissioners of the intended closure by letter dated the same day.
The company is the second-largest egg producer in the U.S., according to its website. It operates 17 facilities in eight states, including farms in nearby Pulaski and Jasper counties.
The White County Egg Farm was built in 1985 along SR 16 outside of Monon. The farm produces over 700,000 eggs per day. The closure will affect the facility’s laborers, operatives, technicians, maintenance workers, administrators and supervisory employees.
Rose Acre Farms dates to the 1930s where it began as a family chicken farm in rural Indiana, according to its website. Today, the company’s operations encompass numerous facilities across the country and its customers include some of the world’s largest retail, food service and industrial companies.
Rose Acre Farms offers commodity eggs, specialty eggs including cage-free varieties, liquid eggs, dried eggs, and egg protein powder.
