Matthias is theson of Larry and Susan Phillips and plans to attend Trine University and major in chemical
engineering.
Jacob is the son of Chris and Sally Smidler and will be attending PurdueUniversity this fall majoring in civil engineering.
Jaclyn is the daughter of Tedmund and Amy Bauer and will attend Purdue University majoring in animal science and biotechnology.
To be eligible to apply for the award, students must attend one of the following high schools: Winamac Community, West Central, North Judson, Pioneer Regional or Culver; however, a member of the NIPFTP may recommend applicants outside of these school districts. Students must be going into the field or a related field of agriculture, engineering, veterinary medicine, agri-business, or a mechanical trade school.
According to NIPFTP president Corey Planck and the NIPFTP’s scholarship committee,students are selected based on their leadership involvement and participation in school and community activities, and also on their reflections relative to the philosophy of the NIPFTPin the form of an essay.
The philosophy is as follows: “The functional purpose of NorthernIndiana Power from the Past, Inc. is for the preservation, rejuvenation and displaying ofantique farm machinery and any other form of machinery utilized in the growth of the UnitedStates of America. Further, it is the intention of this Corporation to attempt to foster andperpetuate in the minds of all Americans, respect, interest and recognition of the vital role that different forms of machinery – no mater what their power source – have played in thedevelopment of our society as a whole.”
NIPFTP will hold its 34th annual antique power show at the Winamac City Park July 16-17. In addition to the scholarships, the NIPFTP has contributed financial support to area county fairs, social and human service organizations, charitable organizations, rescue, police, and fire protection, youth organizations and other historical preservation shows.
