County police received a call reporting the theft at 4:31 a.m. from the motorcycle owner who resides on Pearl Street in Medaryville. He advised the motorcycle had left eastbound on CR 175N.
While en route to investigate, Pulaski County Deputy Matthew Pickens was advised by dispatch that the motorcycle was a black Harley Davidson soft tail with a loud exhaust. In his police report, Pickens said he observed a motorcycle matching the description when he reached CR 700W at SR 14. The cycle was traveling eastbound on the highway.
Deputy Pickens turned around, activating his emergency red and blue lights and siren. He pursued the motorcycle eastbound on SR 14 at speeds over 100 mph, before the cycle turned around in a driveway and continued on the highway, westbound.
The chase continued on SR 14 until the suspect turned south on CR 500W and then four miles later turned west on CR 400S through rural Jefferson Township. After another three miles, the suspect proceeded north on CR 800W, according to the police report. At CR 300S, the motorcycle turned west on the gravel road and proceeded to SR 39 where it turned south.
The suspect next turned west off the highway onto CR 600S. Pickens, in his attempts to catch up to the motorcycle, reported he lost sight of it at this point, and the pursuit was terminated. Officer M. Scott of the Winamac Police Department also assisted with the pursuit, according to the police report.
Pickens then proceeded to the residence of the motorcycle owner, Jonathan Besner, who gave the deputy a more complete description of the motorcycle, including that it had skulls on the tank and a dent in the left side of the tank. Besner said the cycle was valued at $4,000.
The police investigation continues.
