"One of the things that sets Indiana Community Foundations apart from community foundations in other states is the knowledge we have received through the Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT) technical assistance program. Jenny Kloer's leadership of that program has given those community foundations the tools to better serve their respective communities," said Doug Inman, chairman of the Indiana
Community Foundation State Committee.
"The quality of life for Indiana residents is better because of community foundations’ service to their local communities. Indiana Community Foundations are better because of Jenny Kloer’s leadership as GIFT
program director," he continued. "So, Jenny has directly improved the quality of life of every Hoosier in the State of Indiana over the past 17 years."
Lilly Endowment Inc. launched GIFT 20 years ago as an effort to strengthen and expand the growth of community foundations in the state. In 1990, fewer than a dozen viable community foundations dotted the Indiana landscape, with combined assets of about $100 million. Through multiple phases of funding support from the Endowment, a community foundation or affiliate fund exists in every one of Indiana’s 92 counties,
creating local financial support for and engaging local citizen interest and guidance in improving the lives around them. Today 95 community foundations and county affiliate funds, with assets of more than $1 billion, make grants to support local charities and nonprofit organizations in their counties.
Kloer joined Indiana Grantmakers Alliance in 1994 as a program associate for the GIFT technical assistance program, and was promoted to program director in 1996. "Jenny has devoted her entire professional career to developing and supporting organizations that contribute to Indiana’s social, economic, educational and cultural health and vitality," said Marissa Manlove, President/CEO of the Indiana Grantmakers
Alliance, which staffs the GIFT technical assistance program. "Under Jenny’s leadership, the GIFT team has provided inspiring guidance on creating and sustaining community foundations, ensuring that these vital local institutions continue their important work," Manlove continued.
"The work of Jenny and GIFT has been integral to the Pulaski County Community Foundation's ability to serve the residents of our county. With this assistance, PCCF was created, evolved, and has grown to meet the charitable goals of many of our individuals, families, businesses and organizations. Our county has benefited greatly over the past 14 years due to its local community foundation. Today PCCF proudly
serves donors, awards annual grants, and provides leadership to enhance the quality of life in our communities," said Wendy Rose, PCCF Executive Director.
