The Community Foundation of Pulaski County check for Warrior Up 2018 was received by (from left) Denise Hettinger, Kendal Johnson, Rylee Daugherty, Kelly Hines and Mary Marty. |
Warrior Up director Mary Marty praised the program as "reaching out to help neighbors" and is grateful for the Community Foundation’s grant opportunities.
“We had successful outcomes from last year's inaugural program,” Mrs. Marty said in reaction to the news. “The Warrior Up food outreach program will provide quality-of-life improvements for local children.”
The mission of Warrior Up is to provide nutritious meals to participating children, along with activities and lessons to enrich their summer while school is not in session.
So far this summer nearly 70 children are enrolled in the M-W-F program (enrollment continues throughout the summer). This includes those who are receiving weekend buddy bags and/or attending the lunch/lesson sessions.
About Warrior Up:
In its second year, Warrior Up for Jesus is a summer food outreach program for area children. In addition to a nutritious lunch served at the Winamac library, fun, meaningful activities are included; and new in 2018 are age-appropriate life-skills lessons. Also, weekend Buddy Bags (food) are sent home each Friday with participating children, and are delivered to outlying communities via the church mini-bus, as will happen each week during the summer.
