The award committee noted that a constant vigil is required to remove trees that have died due to damage by natural causes and replace them with trees appropriate to the planting location. Zahrt has used every means possible to see that this ongoing project continues by enlisting many community members, organizations, and youth groups. His goal is not to draw attention to himself, but to organize and give support to this community project.
An example of a committed volunteer, Zahrt informs the community when workdays are scheduled, and enlists volunteers who want to help, no matter what their skill level.
