Adam Weesner, the architect from Barton-Coe-Vilamaa Architects & Engineers, presented the base bids for the middle school roof and auxiliary gymnasium. Weesner explained that the base bids are for a Duro-Last roof. Most of the building has a Duro-Last roof. The recommendation is for Wolf Commercial Roofing, Inc. for a base bid of $311,420. The roofing project will be funded through the capital projects fund.
Weesner also presented the base bids and alternates for the secure entrance and utilization of space project. Weesner explained that the project base bids were very competitive with each other. He recommended Gariup Construction Company, Inc. for a base bid of $3,427,500 and an additional alternate bid of $13,000 for the demolition of the air handling unit in the high school. Other alternate bids will be considered in March and April.
Superintendent Don Street reviewed the bond details for the secure entrance and utilization of space project.
In other business, the board discussed that E-Learning Days may be utilized after all make-up days have been used. This has been the philosophy for the
last four school years.
The spring/summer capital projects were reviewed.
It was reported the courtesy Blackboard auto-caller system did not work correctly. Patrons are encouraged to monitor local radio and television stations for cancellations and delays.
Work Session:
The school board also held a work sesson Feb. 15. The purpose of the work session was to review the Vision, Mission, Belief Statements, District Goal, and Strategic Plan.
The board reviewed and discussed information that was provided from the technology director, maintenance director, building principals, survey data from district accreditation, and follow-up information. The survey data included student, staff, and community perceptions and comments.
The board reviewed and discussed the district's vision, mission, belief statements, district goal, educational goals, finance goals, and policy goals. The discussion focused on the needs of the students and how to support the staff and parents in meeting the needs of the students in order to provide a quality education in a safe, structured environment that fosters a sense of belonging, dignity, and respect, which promotes student achievement, appropriate social skills, and healthy lifestyles. Students need a well-developed comprehensive curriculum, relevant instructional actives which incorporate critical thinking skills and timely feedback that provide higher level learning opportunities and enable student success. All students need parents, community, and staff to share the
responsibility, through collaboration and communication, in providing an education that all students need to be successful.
